Closed Season News Round-Up 1

Welcome to the first of our closed season news round-ups, obviously once the park closes news dies down a little until we approach the launch of the 2013 season. But here are a few little pieces of news from the past few weeks.

Local Pressure Group Objects to Resort Lodge Plan

Local Pressure Group “Whiston Action Group” have officially objected to the plans to build 150 holiday Lodges at the resort (as reported by TowersStreet here). Nick Creswell, who heads the group, has stated that:

“As a group, we plan to make a formal representation against these plans to both the district and county councils. It seems Alton Towers can just play the jobs card and get its plans approved, which isn’t for the people who have to put up with all the traffic. We are whole-heartedly against this development.” (Source: The Sentinel, Wed 21st Nov 2012, Full article here).

The action groups primary objective is to prevent visitor numbers to local tourist spots causing disruption to local people. Though it is unclear how much support they have from the wider community as many locals depend on Alton Towers and other local industries for their livelihoods.

TowersStreet will keep you up-to-date with any further developments during the planning process as they occur.

More SW7 Track Delivered

SW7 track has continued to be delivered to the resort since closed season began. Of interest is the delivery of Bi-Rail track which is often used in constricted areas due to its lower bulk, it is believed this track will be used in the underground/ station building section of the ride.

As Always keep an eye on our SW7 mini-site for any updates

Enterprise to Receive Refurb

Enterprise, one of Alton Towers oldest flat-rides is believed to be receiving some extensive work this closed season, although it is not been replaced as has been rumored recently. It is believed the ride will be receiving new motors as well as a new lifting arm to keep the popular ride operational. This will be more important than ever with Enterprise located next to SW7 thereby providing support in crowd management of that area.

As always TowersStreet will keep you up-to-date with news as it happens, don’t forget to like our Facebook Page to stay up-to-date with our resort coverage and join the discussion in our popular talk forums
