An application has been submitted by the Alton Towers Resort for a ‘High Ropes Course’. The application calls for ‘Demolition of existing single storey corrugated building and installation of new high ropes course including the erection of a new single storey building and new play area’
Initially submitted on Monday 24th November 2014, the application shows a “Go Ape” or “Aerial Extreme” type attraction, which in recent years have become popular following their installation at locations across the UK. Documents published show a layout of the aerial course as provided by the company JM Adventure, with the design of the start tower in keeping with the theme of the new Enchanted Village development opening next year.
The location of the new ropes course will be in a wooded area to the north of the Alton Towers Hotel car park, adjacent to the theme park’s overflow car park (car parks J & K). The area currently houses an old farmhouse which will be retained, along with the corrugated building which, according to the plans, is to be demolished. The site is to the north west of the new Enchanted Village development.
Along with the High Ropes course, there will be a small play area and also a small single storey building which will house toilet facilities, a cafe with decking area and office facilities. No additional car parking spaces are to be made for the attraction.
