Alton Towers have today announced their opening dates for 2016. There will be no February half term event next year, and the season will begin on Saturday March 19th 2016. The season will run through until Sunday 6th November 2016 however there are a number of closure dates throughout the season.
The Alton Towers theme park will be closed on select Tuesdays and Wednesdays as follows:
April: 19 & 20, 26 & 27
May: 10 & 11, 17 & 18, 24 & 25
September: 6 & 7, 13 & 14, 20 & 21, 27 & 28
October: 4 & 5, 11 & 12
November: 1, 2, 3 & 4.
This coincides with dates that the Splash Landings Hotel is unavailable to book on the Alton Towers website, suggesting that it will also be closed at these times.
Scarefest appears to be taking a slightly different format in 2016. The event will start earlier than ever on Saturday 8th October 2016 and run for two weekends (8-9 October and 14-15 October) before running continuously from Friday 21st October until Monday 31st October – a total of 15 days.
The end of season fireworks will be returning but only for two evenings instead of the usual three. The fireworks will take place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th November with no display on the traditionally quieter Friday night.
‘Towers Loving Care’
In addition to the main season dates Alton Towers have also announced a three year improvement scheme across the theme park branded as ‘Towers Loving Care’. This will involved repainting whole areas of the theme park, relaying pathways and improving signage as well as complete redesigns or refurbishment of attractions.
Alton Towers do also say that there will be changes to their line up in 2016 which will be announced in January, possibly hinting to the ride closures that we reported in November.
This is all in addition to the changes taking place to Air over the closed season and the new ‘Rollercoaster Restaurant’ in the former Air Shop. Alton Towers have also announced that a new coffee shop and new entertainment will debut in 2016 however details of these are currently unknown.
