Update: Since this article was published, Alton Towers have since advised there was some misinformation in what was advised to guests. It has since been confirmed that annual pass discount will continue to be given to passholders across the resort, with no plans to remove the perk.
Alton Towers have confirmed they have begun phasing out the annual pass discount on alcohol across the park.
A TowersStreet reader was able to gain discount on alcohol last night at the hotels, however whilst at the theme park today, was denied the discount and told it was being phased out. Further checks by the reader at Guest Services also confirmed that the changes came into effect last week in order to bring the park in line with other Merlin attractions.
The resort have also responded to a query on their Twitter feed regarding the removal of the discount
Pass holders have long enjoyed a 20% discount on food and drink at all non-franchise outlets across the park and hotels. Despite occasional issues obtaining discount, and rumours of discount terms being amended, little has changed in the years the discount has been available.
News of the change comes in addition to cuts to opening times which were revealed in recent weeks by TowersStreet, along with select attractions and Dark Forest opening at 11am on quieter days. The changes will no doubt be disappointing to annual pass holders, who have seen significant price increases in recent years as well as additional entrance restrictions being imposed on standard passes since the introduction of the Premium Pass.
What do you think of these changes, and as a pass holder will they affect how much you visit? Don’t forget you can discuss this and more over on our TowersStreet Talk forums.
