Alton Towers have confirmed that the the theme park will now open on 12th April 2021, following the government guidance announced earlier this week.
The theme park was originally scheduled to reopen as normal on Saturday 20th March, and it is understood that the resort was continuing with its pre-season preparation work with this date in mind. However, with COVID-19 restrictions still in place, and lockdown easing only just beginning the decision has been made to move the opening date back.
Upon reopening, the park is still expected to be limiting guest numbers in the same manner as last year, with mandatory pre-booking, social distancing, and the use of face coverings still being present throughout the Resort.
The Resort have also announced that they also plan to reopen their self contained accommodation on this date, meaning that the Enchanted Village is now available for bookings from 12th April onwards. This offering includes both the Woodland Lodges and Treehouses, whilst the Stargazing Pods remain closed due to the shared toilet and shower facilities. Bookings at this time, should however remain limited to family/household groups.
This follows the news that the Alton Towers Gardens will be opening from March 29th 2021, with a similar setup to when they opened in June 2020. You can see our full news report about this here.
As the season progresses and the government adapts its guidelines in line with the ongoing vaccination programme, it is hoped that the later part of the season may begin to see some easing of restrictions.
