Alton Towers have announced the full lineup for their 2023 Scarefest event, with synopses for each of the park’s attractions.
First up this year is a collaboration with gaming YouTuber, Daz Black. With over 8 million subscribers, Daz has partnered with Alton Towers to create “Daz Games: PANIC“. The maze is said to be a crossover between an escape room and live action scare maze. Guests will be given a wristband and will attempt to complete a series of tests to challenge the mind and body. The aim is to discover two unique symbols to exit the maze within a seven minute timeframe.
In a chilling promo video released by the Resort today, Daz’s AI technology has been corrupted and taken over the maze. A brave thrillseeker can be seen running down a dark corridor lined with chain link fencing, searching for the unique symbols before becoming face-to-face with terror.
Next up for new attractions is the return of free flowing scare zones. Burial Grounds will be a free attraction for all guests and located in the shadow of the park’s wooden coaster, Wicker Man.
The Unchosen, a cult obsessive of modern-day fanatics obsessed with the lore of the Beornen invite you to their sacred sanctum of ancient burial grounds. Keep your pace amongst the desecrated realm of unearthed bodies, flaming shrines and monstrous deities. Stay too long and they will choose you too.
Back over at The Towers, we see a refresh to an existing maze. Altonville Mine Tours returns with Altonville Mine Tours – Tiny’s Revenge. The refresh marks the first major update to the attraction since it first debuted back in 2016.
Rumours are afoot that the old Altonville Mines are alive with activity once again. Following a breakthrough from local law enforcers, the notorious Skin Snatches have been detained.. but for how long? The ironically named Tiny, however, has evaded capture and is believed to still reside within the Mines. Explore at your peril and risk the adventure, if you dare.
Another attraction returning is The Attic: Terror of The Towers. A successor to the long serving Terror of The Towers, The Attic debuted in 2019 and sees guests take to the top of the park’s iconic stately home.
An unforgettable and truly chilling experience set in the eaves of the Theme Park’s famous and historical Tower ruins. Rumoured to be haunted by ‘the Governess’, local legend says she is eternally trying to avenge the death of her charges; taking the spirits of the living as penance…but who will be her next victim?
First appearing in 2019 in Mutiny Bay’s courtyard as a family maze, future years saw Darkest Depths move to the site of the Zombies scare zone beside the Towers. The move also saw it receive a higher pumpkin rating and push toward a higher age range.
Get ready for a terrifying new adventure aboard ‘The Mutiny’, a notoriously spine-chilling ghost ship. You’ll truly earn your golden piece of eight by venturing into the darkest depths, avoiding the hazardous calls of the treacherous Sirens, dodging the swords of terrifyingly ghoulish pirate mutineers and coming face to face with the Kraken – the legendary monster of the seas!
The Invitation was the park’s foray into the world of binaural audio experiences, featuring as the new attraction in 2022. Although it received mixed reactions from fans both over on our forum and elsewhere, it makes a return for a second outing this year.
Visit the Lakeside Cemetery mausoleum where the friendly funeral director is dying to meet you. Enter the vault to choose your final resting place but proceed with caution, you will not be alone, some caskets have already been filled and their occupants are keen to meet you.
For families, Trick O Treat Town with HARIBO returns. Every day is Halloween in Trick O Treat Town, and guests are invited to knock on the doors of houses to receive sweet treats from the townsfolk.
Entertainment will also be ongoing throughout the event, with the return of fan favourites the Alton Ancestors, Freaky Five and the Monster Ball over in Cbeebies Land.
Tickets for the scaremazes went on sale at midday today (1st September), with a pass for the four main mazes priced at £34, or £27.20 for passholders. The new experience Daz Games: PANIC is priced at an additional £10 (£8 passholders) and Trick O Treat Town is £12 (£9.60 passholders).
