Alton Towers launches a new promotion this weekend for guests visiting the park to win £1,000 instantly just by being at the park during the promotional period of 7th July to 13th July 2012.
One lucky guest at the park will be selected each day during the promotion at random by the popular pirate show chartacter, Sir Edward England, between the hours of 11:00 and 15:00 and will be presented with a giant cheque for £1,000 on the spot. The park also ran the promotion on Monday 2nd July when a lucky Emmaline from Sutton Coldfield was randomly selected on Oblivion for the prize.
The new promotion has also been prominently advertised on both Alton Towers’ website and official Facebook page in hope that it will draw extra guests to the park in what has been understood to be a “quieter than usual” season for the park, leading to cutbacks in departments, operations and staff on park.
Although whilst it is likely that the competition would be drawn from a Marketing budget that would have been allocated by the Resort at the start of the year, it has drawn some controversy amongst our users, with some people criticising the new promotion as ‘a slap in the face’ of the very recent drastic cut backs to save money that had been announced at the park in order to save money, as we had announced previously on this site.
But many people are excited (and certainly 7 lucky people will be very happy!) with the new competition, and hopefully it will draw in much needed extra guests and revenue for the park nonetheless, although it may leave a sour lump in the throats of many enthusiasts if it fails to do so.
