October 2013 News Round-up

Wednesday 9 October 2013 20:05

Welcome to the October edition of the TowersStreet news round-up, summarising many of the key points from around the Resort in the last few months.

Old MacDonald HAD a farm…

With the 2014 season looming on the horizon, preparations have begun for the newly themed family area that is expected in Old
Berry Bish Bash ClosureMacDonald’s Farmyard. Berry Bish Bash closed a few weeks ago, and TowersStreet snapped a photo of the renovations taking place inside the building.

Monday 7th October saw the closure of Riverbank Eye Spy and The Dung Heap in a further move to begin preparations for the 2014 changes, with notice boards around the area excitedly proclaiming “a brand new family land for 2014!”.

Ticketing changes to the Scarefest line-up

Scarefest 2013 sees the return of the three 2012 scare mazes; Terror of the Towers, Carnival of Screams and The Sanctuary, but with a change to the ticketing system. Carnival of Screams has changed places with Terror of the Towers to become the free maze for 2013, with The Sanctuary remaining paid and Zombies! Scarezone being free for all guests.

Building on the popularity of last year’s Freedom Pass for annual pass holders (one inclusive price for unlimited maze entry and fast-track for Terror of the Towers for the duration of Scarefest) is a reduction in it’s price and availability for all guests; prices are listed at £50 for non-annual pass holders, and £40 for annual pass holders. In addition to this is a new Freedom Ticket, with the same benefits as the Freedom Pass but valid for one day at a price of £20 for non-annual pass holders, and £16 for annual pass holders. For more information, see the official site for more information.

Shining a light on it – Scarefest preparations

TowersStreet was kindly provided with a photo from our member Jordan to show lighting tests on the ruins ready for the

Scarefest Lighting 01Scarefest and Fireworks events, meaning preparations are well underway for guests to have a spooktacular time when the event kicks off on Saturday 19th October. Carnival of Screams is partially visible from it’s entrance area, and fencing has been erected around the gardens hosting The Sanctuary and Terror of the Towers queue lines. Over the next ten days, the park will continue to transform into a Hallowe’en haven of pumpkins, eerie lighting and skeletal friends.

Front Row Fastrack

It has come to light that Front Row Fastrack tickets are now available for guests to purchase for some of the park’s major attractions, including The Smiler and Air. TowersStreet members saw these tickets being used on The Smiler during Saturday 28th September, and it is thought the same premium option may be available for Rita and Nemesis, though this is unconfirmed. The cost is not yet known and there was no evidence of advertising the ticket around the park.

…and finally… a breath of fresh Air!

A long-standing joke within the enthusiast community, and a genuine bone of contention, is the Air tunnel. While many changes have been seen in the tunnel since the ride’s debut in 2002 (mops, step ladders, on-ride-video lighting and the like), the newest addition to the well-loved concrete structure is a set of blue lighting, sure to get tongues wagging! Is this the start of something major? Or is it just a few spare bulbs? Our thoughts… probably the latter!

That’s all folks!
