It’s been a busy few days of news from the Resort as The Smiler has faced another extended period of downtime and the park have revised some of the opening hours for the popular end-of-season Scarefest event.

The Smiler: Downtime

Alton Towers’ brand new £18m roller coaster, The Smiler, has been closed once again for the entire duration of the day both yesterday (30th July) and today (31st July). Alton Towers have not released any information on this closure yet and have remained rather quiet about it on their website and social media, stating that they do not usually comment on individual ride breakdowns. We have reason to believe that this downtime is not linked to the recent issue surrounding a piece of “debris” falling from the ride track into the queue area below however we do not know what specifically has caused this closure.

Our Talk forums are busy speculating the circumstances surrounding this event and we will try to bring you the latest news as and when we can. Be sure to follow our Facebook and Twitter too in order to find out the latest information as we know it. Equally, keep an eye on RideTimes.co.uk to check on the official queue times on resort.

Scarefest Hours Cut

Alton Towers have recently altered their opening hours during the first week of the popular Scarefest event. Between Monday 21st and Friday 25th the park will open between 10am and 7pm marking a distinct departure from the 9pm closes during the rest of the event. The Halloween-themed fortnight at the park usually prides itself on its chilling atmosphere and the ability to ride your favourite rides in the darkness, however in the first week guests will not be treated to much (if any) dark riding at all. We are yet to find out if this is a permanent change or what the reasons behind this are, but it has been met with a lot of opposition within the fansite community.

Alton Towers Scarefest runs from the 19th October to the 3rd November and we will bring you the latest news on the event as we get it. You can join in the latest Scarefest discussion on our Talk forums.
