Corkscrew Fountain
The Corkscrew Fountain, also sometimes known as the Candlestick Fountain, is a 4 tier stone fountain, with a spiral fluted design, which creates a unique effect as water cascades down the structure. It was likely added to the Gardens during the same period as the Prospect Tower and other nearby features.
Then and Now
Then (c. 1930s):
Now (2020):
The Corkscrew Fountain is possibly one of the least changed landmarks in the gardens over the years. If anything, this area of the Gardens has less fencing today than it did in the 1930s. A variation on the rustic fencing seen in the older picture remained around the Corkscrew fountain into the 2000s, before it was replaced by the 'queue-line' style fencing seen in the later photo.
