In a garden inspired by monuments from around the world, Stonehenge is somewhat unique, finding inspiration from the famed English stone circle. One of the earlier additions to the gardens, the monument takes some liberties with its source material, imagining the standing stones with a second storey.
Whilst Stonehenge is one of the more understated garden features by modern standards, at the time it was built it was a unique feature to be found in a garden such as this, with Loudon commenting that it was "a feature in artificial landscape which we have not elsewhere seen".
Each of the large stones in the henge is thought to be around 9 tons, and early etchings would suggest that originally a sculpture was housed under the upper storey.
