Bouncing Bugs

The Bouncing Bugs was one of the longest running childrens rides in Alton Towers' History. It also holds a special place as the park's most relocated attraction, due to its highly portable design. It was a classic kiddie ride, featuring small plane shaped cars which rotated in a clockwise direction. The height of the planes was controlled by a small lever operated by the child riding. Due to the ride having little legroom it had a limited height restriction of 1.1-1.5m.
Originally known as Baby Flug, the ride's first season was 1981, when it opened with a selection of other kiddie rides at the foot of Talbot Street in an area that would become known as Adventureland 4-11 in 1982. It operated here for over a decade, but after the closure of Adventureland 4-11, by 1993 it had moved into Festival Park, now known as Junior Flyer.
It also stayed in this location for over a decade, and received a makeover in 1999 when Festival Park became Ug Land and the ride became the Ug Bugs. The ride departed Ug Land during the construction of Rita, and from 2005 it moved to Cred Street as Bouncing Bugs.

During it's final years, the ride became a staple of the resort's Winter offering, when it was often moved around the resort to wherever the Christmas Event was focused. Along with other Cred Street attractions, during winter it operated as far afield as Towers Street and event Forbidden Valley.
The Bouncing Bugs final main season was 2008, though the ride appeared one final time in the 2008-9 Christmas event, when it operated for the final time at Alton Towers. For its final month of operation the Bouncing Bugs moved out of the park altogether, as part of the Elves Playground at the Splash Landings Hotel
