Magic Carpet
The Magic Carpet operated at Alton Towers for two seasons and offered riders a wild ride packed with negative g's. It arrived in 1984 as part of 'Project Octoberfest' which saw Talbot Centre transformed into Festival Park, including the addition of several flat rides.
It departed the park after just two seasons, most likely ushered out by the introduction of the 1001 Nights ride in 1985, which offered a similar but more dramatic ride experience. The Magic Carpet packed a punch but remained below the treeline during its ride sequence, whereas, as a much taller ride, 1001 Nights was able to swoop above the canopies of the surrounding wood, offering spectacular views of the Staffordshire Moorlands.
The Magic Carpet left the park at the end of 1985 and was replaced by the Spider for the following season.
But the story didn't end there... upon departing Alton Towers, the ride headed north of the border, finding a new home at M&D's in Scotland. To enjoy a similar ride experience in England, a similar ride can be found at Thorpe Park, known as Quantum.
