News has broke this afternoon from Alton Towers that The Smiler will not open as planned tomorrow (Thursday 23rd May). News of the delay was published on the Alton Towers website:

The Smiler, a world record breaking 14 inversion roller coaster was initial due to open in time for the start of the 2013 season. However, the Gerstlauer manufactured ride has seen a number of delays over the course of it’s construction since site clearance began in April last year.
