The Smiler just above Nemesis
Over the last few weeks there has been two trips to Alton Towers and there is a group of friends which refers to the rides with incorrect names such as calling Nemesis The Big One and Air Infusion. For some reason people at my school are getting rides way too mixed up with others or calling them completely made up names such as calling oblivion 'Da Big Dropper' and putting the word the in stuff related to Alton mixed up loads and some even said let's go down the towers street and on the oblivion and worst of all up the Alton Towers Cathedral by far the worst I heard. I have heard rides exaggerated and with incorrect names too many times in a week but then one started talking to me and my friend about Oblivion putting the in front of it every two seconds. We told I'm it was just Oblivion but ten of his friends started backing him up until we had enough so we took out our maps and showed him that most of the rides don't have the in front of them with the exception of the smiler and the flume. You would not believe how quickly they shut up and went away after that. Feel free to post rides you have heard by wrong names and what they called them. Is it just me that hears it so regularly and gets annoyed by it or is it too common? Post your examples here. I'm fine if it is the odd mistake but i hear it from the same people all the time.

Stuff like this doesn't really bother me now to be honest, it use to, but I've learnt to tolerate it.

Anyway, to contribute to this topic; I've heard people call it Sonic Pinball (and previously Pinball Whizzard). You also get stuff like people calling Blade; "The Pirate Ship" for example.

Yep, it's the putting "the" before everything. It doesn't even really make sense when you think about it, most other attractions such as stadiums or venues don't have "the" in front of them.

Someone on the monorail the other year calling Nemesis "The Corkscrew"!

:)

"Metamorphosis Inferno" (Source: Tumblr tag 'Thorpe Park')

The same person also said they loved the Swarm as it didn't go upside down.

My dad calling Tower of Terror 'House of Terror'...annoys me that I constantly keep reminding him the real name, though he always gets it wrong.

It always annoys me when you hear people call every rollercoaster 'The Big Dipper'. It's normally people aged in their fourties and onwards, but it's still irritating.

One of my class did tell me today that he'd been at the weekend and did say to me he had been on the one that's a number and the smile maker. Didn't annoy me but he was dead excited he had been on them.

What annoys me most is people who put a 1 at the end of films. E.G Toy story 1 back to the future one.

I think that's a generational thing, they're not saying the ride is called 'The Big Dipper', they're saying the ride is a big dipper. A big dipper = a roller coaster. That's always been my interpretation of that phrasing at least.

When they say 'did you go on the Big Dipper' or 'which one is the Big Dipper', they speak as though it's the name of the coaster.

My god get a life!
Just because you disagree with what people are saying doesn't mean you have to be rude about it. This is a discussion forum and by its very nature it will include discussion on things you may think are silly or disagree with.

The first post you made was a Wardley joke, this one was just being antagonising. Less of it please :)

It annoys me more when I hear staff at attractions refer to rides incorrectly - The Nemesis, The Thirteen or the drop one for example.
