No idea pal. I first noticed it went a bit to pot when they changed to the new AT website style. I do know, however, that the guy who used to update the website (who used to be based at Staff's uni) and who worked closely with AT at one point (Dr Gary Kelsall) has moved on to a different Uni and doesn't do so much with Alton at the current time. The last project he worked on with them was the Bill Roache doc on 'Who Do You Think You Are' as far as I'm aware. I used to be in touch with him by email but havn't been in contact for a while now. If you're viewing this Alton Towers, I'm looking for a new project ;)

Looks like a lot of work went into it so it's a shame to see the website disappear all together.

They need to get it back online. I have already told them that in an email a few months ago. If you require any content that was on the website though they should be able to provide it if you do drop them an email.

:)

maybe a few more emails from more people will get them to put the links back, how hard could it be, Im sure the site is still on the server somewhere, feeling all alone and unloved in the darkness of digital blackness.

I don't believe the site is gone for good, think it just needed work and that has been pushed back a bit as have a lot of things recently.

I wouldn't overly worry about it.

I did tweet this pic to them, they are ignoring me tho

I seem to recall someone telling me that the heritage site, and indeed Towers archive care is a result of cost savings...

It's funny because the site is actually linked to from the new Towers site, but it's merely a dead-link. Sad.

There really is no cost saving implication to heritage. The archives are managed by parts of the welcome team at Alton Towers (it has never had a dedicated team). The website I believe is simply being rebuilt but the audience is so small it isn't exactly top priority and will be done when it is done.

No, it definitely isn't being rebuilt - and I was told that hosting cost, despite being minimal was seen as something to save.

If it is not then that is very poor on Alton Towers part. The least they could do was keep the previous website online, it was a very useful resource.

If anyone from Alton Towers is reading this, please do something. You have a duty to provide guests that want to know about the heritage of the park some information. You also know that plannig documents relating to Alton Towers talk about promiting the heritage side of things more. Not having a website does the total opposite.

:)

Is there actually any one particular person at Towers nowadays that deal with the archive and the heritage side of things? In the past there was always Les, then Di in recent years until she retired several years back. I get the impression that there isn't particularly anyone these days who is really ON IT. I did around 12,000 words on the history of the gardens at AT for my dissertation and any normal person would probably send a copy to a company that they based a piece of work on but with Towers I get the impression that no-one would really give a damn enough to read it so have never even bothered sending one of a few copies I have sitting in a drawer. They really seem to be lacking in the heritage department these days, and as has been mentioned many times before, they could really make a lot more use of it.

I decided to Tweet Towers about this and here is what they said:

"...we'd really like to get a Heritage website back online. There's nothing to announce in the immediate future, but stay tuned!"

It probably does come down to money.

:)
