RCDB reclassifies stuff all the time, Vikingar at BPB used to be on there but no longer is, along with a couple of the smaller (less coaster-y) SuperSplash rides, including Plopsaland's. I still count Vikinga, and have never counte Butterfly rides, basically, an RCDB entry is neither a necessary nor sufficient criteria for something to be classed as a coaster in my view.

Hmm - with 2 "coasters" declassified, maybe RCDB just really hate Plopsa. Based on my visit last August I can sympathise.

The Supersplash ones actually annoy me, because it's kinda arbitrary in a way which ones count... Especially since they all have that airtime hill bit which makes them 'coast'...

Even more annoying when Fuga d'Atlantide is on there and like hell can that be considered an actual coaster... Otherwise you might as well count Hydro or the self operated Aqua Splash things...

Such is the issue when basing decisions off one person's opinion really...

Going back on to SW8. Does anyone think SW8 will use transfer track for the ability for a 3 train service. If SW8 uses a 3 train service it's throughput would be decent but if it had a 2 train service it will have a terrible throughput. What does anyone else think? If it had a throughput of <1000pph I doubt Merlin would of approved it.

Just checked and Fuga da Atlantide is not on rcdb, though it may well have been at one stage. I'm pretty sure it wasn't on there back in 2012 (when I visited Gardaland) either. It's absolutely not a coaster.

--- on topic ---

Capacity is something I'm slightly concerned about with SW8. Wooden coasters very rarely go above 1000/hr which you'd have to think would be the absolute minimum they can get away with for such a high profile ride. I think 3 trains is possible given the probable on-ride pre show room, the main question is how efficiently they can load the trains. Wodan shows it's possible to get decent capacity without needing an offload platform or a baggage room, but then you're relying on efficient staff.

Did anyone spot the articles about an incident on the SW8 site?

A workman was taken to hospital after being run over by a dumper truck on a construction site at Alton Towers.Emergency services were called to the Staffordshire theme park at around 17:30 GMT on Monday.West Midlands Ambulance Service said the manwas treated for leg and hip injuries and airlifted to hospital. He was later discharged.

I did not link the daily fail article as it was 90% smiler

Did not stop the daily fail from forget the hotel build, however the did remember to mentioning SW8 construction. Then spending 90% of the article going on about the smiler incident.

Madness, I agree - but a free press is more important than roller coasters.

SW8 should be more than capable of running 3 trains :)
Didn't the planning documentation state two 24 seater trains? Those things are not the quickest trains to load, I imagine 3 on a layout as short as this would be counter productive.

Guys the new park map released for services day and the coming season indicates that SW8 will be part of the Gloomy wood. (sorry if this has already been posted) (source photo from TP callum)

I doubt the entrance will actually be in the current gloomy woods anywhere near duel, looks like they have extend the gloomy woods area to include the haunted hollow and around (but avoiding) the Katanya canyon

This is the first time a SW has been advertised on the park map right? Usually it just says Under Construction or something similar.

This is true but it's quite surprising it wasn't in mutiny bay or Katanga canyon as they are closer and the ride will be most visible from those areas.
Also they have completely removed adventure land and Spinball Whizzer is now categorised as part of the towers.
