Europa-Park: Overrated?

I lost a bit of enthusiasm for [Icon] after riding Blue Fire for the first time last week, coz that was garbage.

Although I guess Helix is well spoke of..

I know everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but this is the first time I have ever heard Blue Fire be described as 'garbage', you clearly have very high standards, sir. And I hate to say it, but if you did not rate Blue Fire... I highly doubt you will rate this, because it is far more likely to be on a slightly lower par than BF and nowhere close to Helix!

In terms of my own enthusiasm for this project, it is increasing with every new announcement. It may not be the thrilling UK Helix everybody wanted but it will fill a gap in the PB lineup and it is no doubt set to be a solid attraction! As for the name... I really like it. And if it is all styled in a similar way to the logo it will look great!

RE: Icon, I don't think there are many names which are well received immediately.

Regarding, say, Rita - over time it's very much woven into the AT fabric.

As for the individual saying Blue Fire is garbage... well, it may not be Maverick or iSpeed (nor indeed Helix) but if Blue Fire is garbage i can only fear what you'd have to say about something like Xpress or Cheetah Hunt.

I'm yet to ride Xpress, but the Rock n Rollercoaster clones were both more enjoyable than Blue Fire. As is Cheetah Hunt, and practically every other launch coaster I've been on (including Taron, Ka, Baco, Karacho, Anubis, The Mummy).

The launch is just incredibly weak (so weak the trains don't even blur on pictures), it felt like it was going to stall on that first turn and the loop. The turn after the loop was forceless, which surprised me, and so was the rest of the layout. The final inversion was a bit of fun but that was about it. Forceless and uneventful would be my way to describe it.

And please don't talk to me like I'm the only person to have this opinion, on Facebook alone I've seen plenty of people say similar things. It's an over rated coaster in an over rated park IMO.

It's a nice enough park to walk around in, but for me it just lacks decent rides. Everything with thr exception of Arthur (which with a few improvements wouldn't be out of place at a Disney park) was just so incredibly average.

Good entry price though, and ORP were well priced too. Food Loop was excellent, and had a much better variety than our counterpart. I also thought the VR on Pegasus worked really well, much better than Galactica. Having to pay for it is a bit cheeky though.

I liked Poseidon but damn that thing is rough. Wodan is good... but that's it. It should be better. I rank White Lightning and Joris higher.

And how many shows?! Was it 12?! It definitely felt like they went for a quantity over quality approach at Europa. With the exception of Arthur, all the dark rides were so awful, with such bad animatronics (is this a German thing though, coz I found the same Holiday Park and Phantasialand?)

Does someone maybe want to split this into its own thread? I can see this going on for some time.... XD

I'm not so sure about this Samwise, I think it'll top Bluefy personally. My question is will it top the greatest rollercoaster EVA!!!! - Taron :D:D:D

Wow! Europa Park - overrated? A park voted best in the world consecutively in the industry awards renowned for being biased to American Parks.

With all due respect, are you smoking crack?

I most certainly don't think Europa-Park is even in the top 5 parks in Europe if it is high thrill rollercoasters you are looking for.

:)

I wouldn't even say it's the best in Germany (Phanny), let alone Europe or the World.

Fair enough. Phantasialand is certainly an amazing park with some very intensely themed rides. It's definitely an incredible place which for themed experiences, is definitely better than Europa-Park. It just is quite small, so isn't the sort of place I would hit for 3-4 days, like I would EP.

EP has the hotels, the restaurants, the general 'chill' factor, which is why I go there regularly.

For out and out thrillseekers or cred whores then Europa is a bit meh...

But then I think Cedar Point is overrated... So it works both ways really...

For the amount of stuff there though, there's a consistently high quality throughout... The dark rides are very continental Europe though and cheese, but that is the charm of them really, like Bubbleworks really...

Blue Fire is fun... And the final inline insane, but I do think often that people forget the main purpose of a ride is too be fun, and is rubbish if you've not been thrown about somewhat... If that were the case, Coaster Express would be one of the best Woodies in the world...

^ But I also dislike it when people say "that coaster is great coz it's smooth", being smooth really doesn't make a coaster great all.

Which would you say is the best theme park in Europe then? Genuinely interested to know.

I always struggle to point things like the best park or the best coaster, I find it really hard to actually make a top 5 coaster list, I just know that if I did, the likes of El Toro, Taron and GeForce would be in it.

But of the parks I've been to in Europe, the stand out ones are; Phantasialand, Disneyland Park, Parc Asterix, and Parque Warner. And probably Alton Towers as well. All of them I would rank higher than Europa.

And I don't think that" lack of thrills" point is a valid one to make - Plopsaland de Panned majorly lacks thrills, but it's an awesomely fun little park. Europa just felt so "meh", it just has to many rides that lack the "re-ride-ability" factor. Literally just Arthur and Silver Star were the only rides we had to urge to go on again.

I think it's a great park, but I am yet to be won over by the fact that it is some sort of holy grail. It's certainly one of the best looking parks I've been to. Some of the older rides feel very old now and the community does give them a pass for it.

EuroSat and Euro-Mir feel very dated in their decor. I can't help but wonder if they would foster the same warmth and appreciation in the community if they didn't have the fingerprints of the Mack family all over them.

I'd also suggest the newer areas like Iceland don't feel anywhere near as 'full' and 'immersive' (I hate that word...) as the longer standing bits.

Well sh¡t, if EP does not meet your expectations, I'd say it's time to find another hobby.

I feel EP is best looked at as an overall package. It doesn't have the best coasters, or flat rides, or theming. But the overall experience is miles better than almost anything outside Disney.
