Interesting. When I complained anout the Skyride being closed years ago, I was told,
"The Skyride is not intended for transportation, it is a family attraction for viewing the gardens."
They say to both vip and rap groups it isn't included as a ride. (But hosts on site are ok with rap)

Why does that make it ok to be closed ? :p
It doesn't! But apparently it counts as a reason to close it.

A thing you ride on.... With "RIDE" in it's name... but it's not actually a ride.
Makes perfect sense.

If it is not intended for transportation then why does it have three stations? :p

My thoughts were "he worked at Towers until recently so should know", but from what other people have said it might be a recent decision to stop photography on the rapids, and when you ask staff on the ride you usually appear to be told "its fine"... so perhaps Towers management need to actually tell the current staff what the rules are before responding in the way they have done.

Indeed! (This was back in the last days of DIC, before Merlin, for the record.)

Aaaaanyway, back on topic...

..... Actually, I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said. Carry on. As you were.

I don't get why people argue? If you don't like the rule, you're perfectly free to go built your own rapids, with blackjack and hookers and film yourself on them all day long. But as it stands, you've paid for the privilege to ride Alton Towers's and have to abide by their rules.

Granted, Alton could have been a bit more diplomatic in their replies but I can totally see why they didn't. TPW have a large following, a lot of them youngsters, and Towers needed to send the message to them that it's not OK to just do as you please because you've got a following.

I agree with your sentiments, except it seems like Alton Towers have not signed this rule adequately and even the staff seem to have differing opinions. If the staff can't even decide whether it's allowed, what chance do guests have?

Easy, use the presumption it's forbidden

Quite clearly, it seems to be a tricky grey area that needs/needed sorting, with reasons and context behind why filming isn't allowed. Alton Towers had not much option but to flag it up, and then when challenged by TPW they made the decision to continue the hard line.

They couldn't exactly U turn, and they'd be being hypocritical if they didn't call out a popular page whilst presumably stopping other guests on other rides. It was making a point.

I think this whole thing has got very sensationalised just because it's Shawn Sanbrooke, although it does show that there needed to be more consistency with the rules in the recent past.

Surley a bit much to say the Towers employee asking them to stop only did it for their own ego, it's their job, especially when ego is arguably the reason vloggers film themselves in the first place! :p

I agree with you but unfortunately, the press would accuse ATR of running a death trap and at best, the ride wouldn't operate for quite some time. At worst, it would be permanently closed.

Look at Drayton... that accident was just a accident, caused by the riders decisions. One year on, the ride is still closed and has an uncertain future.

Which is why I would tell the press what I have said on here, If somebody is incapable of following basic safety rules then frankly it's there own bloody fault!

Would it make them look bad?

Yes but I think somebody needs to challenge the blame/ clame culture in this country.

If not the parks them self’s then a campaign group of some sort.

Well we all know the parks are not going to do it, so I think sombody should do.

Sean Sanbrooke gets a bad reputation but last season I saw somebody throw a Cornetto in his face after a heated discussion about Th13teen's lift chain. Now, any normal bloke would respond to a Cornetto to the face with a concentrated dose of ultra violence, but Sean just said "well, that your opinion is and I respect" and walked away from Dark Forest with his head held high (and covered in ice cream)

A phone on the rapids is nothing in my opinion. As I mentioned in the general discussion thread, I saw somebody eating a (spicy) Pepperami on Oblivion, and I regularly see people using flasks of hot water, laptops, reading books etc.

One time a woman was arguing with a ride host about whether she could hold a vase on RMT. Eventually she caused so much of a scene that they gave in and let her hold the vase. Her argument was that if she left it on the platform it would be stolen. In her defence it was a gorgeous vase but there is also the argument she should have put it in a locker or not brought a vase to a theme park in the first place.
