The Public Transport Thread

I think there's some discussion to be had about this. The public transport options are very poor for towers compared to other parks such as Blackpool and Thorpe. The buses that do run don't run at suitable times and if you miss the return your only option is paying for a taxi which isn't really ideal.

Sorry if a thread like this already exists :)

This is why towers has already surprised me with how many visitors it gets because from past experiences public transport is an absolute nightmare even on off peak days it took forever to get there and if you missed your bus you had to wait an hour for the next one but I can't see the situation changing anytime soon unfortunately but if it became more public transport friendly in my opinion it would boost the numbers coming to visit towers not drastically but to an extent

Well to be fair, Towers is in the middle of Nowhere, Blackpool has a railway station, a tram stop and a decent bus service, Thorpe is 30-45 minutes from Central London, and had a direct service to the park from the local rail station.

It's a pity the £6 charge for car parking (given the poor alternative options to get there) is not out towards some dedicated bus service from the main station and/or surrounding areas

I am generally quite supportive of public transport and do use it a lot, but going to the park on public transport fills me with absolute dread.

Even if it was cheaper, frequent etc I still would opt to take the car so we can stop on the way/way back and have that flexibility etc. That's not just with Alton, I can count the number of times I've been to a park on public transport on one hand.

For those who rely on it, there are options but perhaps not as many as people would like, but I suspect a subsidy doesn't make sense for more.

The last time I went to Towers on public transport was 1987 ! Never again ! Put me off for life :D
Maybe now the park is recovering somewhat in visitor numbers. The local bus service will start putting on extra busses.

Sorry to bring up an old thread again but with the bus starting up again this weekend for Alton Towers it feels relevant.

The Towersstreet website appears to be out of date, as the bus travels from Stoke-on-Trent, not Uttoxter.

Has anyone tried taking a taxi before, and if so how expensive is it? I probably need to travel to Stoke-On-Trent.

Cheers Speedy, I'll get this updated. :)

Thanks, I'm questioning whether it's worth it though since most rides aren't opening until 11 anyway

.

I have never done the bus so I have no idea but are you sure the stoke bus doesn’t pass through Uttoxeter?

I'm not sure at all :D

However I am going based on this page which doesn't mention Uttoxeter. The Alton Towers website suggests you can go from Uttoxeter but it doesn't mention which service, and I don't know when that was written. Clearly it hasn't been updated in a while as one of the links is dead. The X52 service takes you from Nottingham, but I'm not familiar with the area so I don't know where the places it passes through are.

Really poor show from Towers in my opinion.

They should really build that relief road that was planned a few years back...
