Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

Yeah they wont be adding another coaster for a good while now. Maybe 8-10 years minimum.

I do expect them to maybe invest in a few flats though. They are relatively inexpensive and good for hoovering up crowds.

A new age drop tower has regularly been speculated to eventually replace Ice Blast which is in an awful state.

A giant discovery / gyro swing would be a very good fit for PB I think.

I'd love them to replace Impossible with something good eventually too. That's such an awful waste of valuable space.

A £5 entry fee for none riders would be a lot easier to digest if it were given back in ride tickets or food/drinks, alongside a significant reduction in the number of tickets needed per ride. I'm sure with a few simple changes BPB could be a lot busier, taking a lot more money while maintaining the entry fee they want.

It is £6 now for none riders.

To put the ridiculous ride ticketing price structure into perspective, if you simply want to visit the pleasure beach and ride Icon but nothing else it will cost you £6 to get in and then 15 ride tickets, so £21 in total for one ride on Icon ! Crazy when an all day wristband is just a couple of quid more if bought in advance.

And if you used ride tickets to have one ride on each of the 10 coasters it would cost you £80 (which includes the £6 entry charge). Roughly the same price as it cost me to renew my season ticket !

Even Blue Flyer costs £5 to ride !!

Anyone would think they want to get people to buy wristbands....!

:)

Clearly they do but does it have to be at the expensive of what could be a very good 2nd revenue stream if it was priced better.

Exactly.

Me, you, and every other coaster buff wouldn' dream of doing anything other than BPB when in Blackpool.

However, to some, BPB is a small part of a day out, or a weekend away and the current system basically says 'come to us for the day or Foxtrot Oscar' and that business model see thousands of pounds going away unspent, to be either taken by the piers or taken back home.

Of course catering for those who want a whole day out is important, but why completely ignore everyone else.

I bet merlin would be rubbing there hands together if one of the parks they owned attracted people in at 3, 4 5 and 6pm. I certainly don' imagine them saying 'nah, we don't want your custom, you should have been here at 10am'

The Big One buckle up app which you could use to collect tokens for free wristbands has stopped accepting exchanges apparently due to people selling the vouchers on eBay.

I can't be bothered having the wider conversation again, we've been round that track so many times!

Do they still sell the Big One Ride Ticket? £15 or whatever it was, included entry and a ride of your choice.

You can still get Icon boarding cards, so you can just do Icon, with park entry, for sixteen quid.
And you get the fantastic fountains, train ride and Chinese maze thrown in for free!
Not like a tyke to miss a cheaper offer shakey.

Yes, and think it's still £15, and from what I overheard in the ticket centre the other week is valid on Icon.

Only today my wife was only talking about having to pay for entry to the pleasure beach. As a wheelchair user, she is unable to go on any of the rides, she was saying that to pay £5 £6 entry is an insult.

@RoyJess I'm not sure if the modified Pleasure Beach Express wheelchair carriage is suitable for all wheelchairs, but they did spend a lot putting that in a good few seasons ago.

If you go to a Merlin park or most parks in the world and only intend to walk around all day and not ride you don't get in for free do you? So why should you at PB?

Even paying £6 it still works out far cheaper than having to pay full price to not ride elsewhere. Still a good deal for parents or grand parents who would rather wait outside the attractions for their kids/grandkids.

My wife can't ride for two reasons, one is the way she is laid out in her wheelchair, her chair will be awkward to manoeuvre in as well as being a tad longer than most wheelchairs.

Also her bones are too delicate and don't repair, the trains may seem gentle to us, it would be extremely painful for Jess to ride.

Actually, Jess usually pay's full price to go in most attractions, I get in free as an essential carer. We were at Great Yarmouth today (we normally visit a couple times a month) we both have access to both the Great Yarmouth pleasure beach and Joy land completely FOC to walk around whether we choose to ride the rides or not (obviously we have to pay extra to ride the rides).

Going back to BPPB, I used to love it when you could walk around the pleasure beach just to soak in the atmosphere without paying to enter on the days that I wasn't paying to ride the rides.

Entirely understandable why people don't like paying to get in, but it's entirely understandble why the small fee is in place. Stops the majority of people that are going to spend the day breaking the rules and assaulting Bradley Beaver getting entry. It's better than paying full price to get into other parks.

I can understand paying an entrance fee for entry to a themepark or any other type of attraction where everything is included in the price of entry.......

....but this is a pleasure beach (not a themepark) that we are talking about and then you have to pay extra to ride the rides (unless you paid for a wrist band).

I find the £6 entry charge is just as an insult as Merlin charging you £6 to exit their car parks

^So, you would rather BPB became a pay one price park and everyone has to pay full price regardless of whether they want to ride things?

I don't mind the £6 entry. It helps keep riff-raff out and you get to ride the train and go in the garden maze.

It is the ride ticket price structure that needs looking at. You should get £6 of ride tickets with the entry fee and IMO they should reduce the ride prices by at least a third to make it a viable alternative to wristbands.

:banghead:

That's why you have wristbands and tickets for. It's a pleasure beach not a themepark. It should be free to enter  Imagine visiting your local supermarket and being charge £6 entry fee just to browse regardless whether you purchase something or not

You obviously haven't visited Alton on alcohol free days or Thorpe Park on a normal day :p

you get to ride the train and go in the garden maze.

Like I said I can't get Jess on the train and the last time I took Jess into the maze, the exit were via a step bridge (might have been a turn style, can't exactly remember) , the entrance to the maze has water squirting out which turns off when you enter. But will get you wet if you try and exit the maze via the entrance which is the only way I could get a wheelchair out again via level access  All I can remember, I got wet having to exit via the entrance to the maze.

It's not about the £6 fee, it's just the principle of them charging you to enter just to browse the rides. Especially if they are selling individual tickets for single rides.

It's called Pleasure Beach, but last time I checked it was an amusement park, just like Cedar Point, Carowinds or any Six Flags parks. A park the quality of BPB is never in a million years going to be free to enter in this day and age.

BPB has developed far beyond the pay per ride days, and will never be going back thank goodness. The £6 entry has massively helped the park in terms of atmosphere alone.
