The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

I think it's a good sign, for sure. The area certainly does need something done to it. I wonder if we'll see anything else before the end of the season, unless it's just another repaint with a few small theming additions... fingers crossed it's something a bit more significant than that!

At this rate it will either be a typical Merlin bodge paint job with added IP and little new hardware to get it open for March or if they want to put a bit more effort in they will be looking at a May opening like CBeebies Land.

Well we all know how Merlin love to leap on the latest IP to be down with the kids. So with that in mind, I predict the next big retheme will be "Magpie Land".

I’m open to being impressed but I cannot see this being more than a lick of paint and some tacky branded signs stuck to the walls.

If you ask me the area needs a complete rebuild to incorporate coaster corner and the Charlie / toy land yours building. It’s a huge space really

A few good adult / family dark rides / water rides could go there

Hence missed opportunity.

Again, I’m prepared to eat my hat

@JB1985 pipe dreams are fine, but this project is of a certain scale by design. If they want to do something more elaborate they could do so in time.

Creating a wider area that needs to be maintained is insane when there unused areas within the park with infrastructure in place. Coaster Corner is closed because it made sense to develop elsewhere.

Not to mention the back of house areas that would need to be relocated.

Your welcome to your opinion you really are but you have to admit the two possibilities are so different:
1) a tacky ip poorly done for a short term gain
Or
2) long term vision and development opportunity

I know what I would choose - hence my comments

If the IP ends up being Gangsta Granny it won't be one of those 'let's be hip and relevant' IP's, The book and film has been out for ages. And as far as I'm aware there aren't any plans for any sequels/prequels/reboots or any of that jazz.

I could see the ride being a similar style of ride to Gruffalo at Chessington (Which is miles better than CatCF was) but aimed at a slightly older age range.

They are completely different - 1) is entirely cynical and full of assumptions. 2) is utterly vague and disingenuous. This is a low year capital investment year that will afford the park an opportunity to fill a hole in their product and refresh an area of the park that really needs some love.

I know what I would choose - hence my comments
It's not about what I would choose, it's about what makes sense for the park given the expected investment level. Hell, I'd love a huge family dark ride that even @TakeYourMedicine would love, but they just spent upwards of £15m on a roller coaster as they work to exit one of the most painful periods in the park's history.

If I was buying a new car I'd choose a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, but I'd acquiesce and go for another Volkswagen. Life will always suck if you compare what you have versus what you would choose to have.

I get your comments but surely a low investment year would be better spent on a flat/small filler ride ? It’s a far greater need than that of an area which would be served better with a larger budget. The possibilities are endless and once done it won’t be refurbished again for at least a decade. Hence my comment about this potentially being a missed opportunity.

Hell even spending the budget on getting some of the existing rides up to scratch would be better - maybe reopen sub terra?

You comment on getting the park out of a difficult period. If this is the case surely each development should be well thought out and planned for the longer term with every penny counting. Ultimately short sightedness got them into this situation.

I concede we don’t actually know the budget or plans yet but history does tend to repeat itself and I can only foresee a poor rushed retheme of what is already there. To me that seems very short sighted

It would be very difficult for the park to get planning permission for any large scale developments in Coaster Corner but it would be nice to see it utilised in some way in the future.

Theres a lot to do already in that area without thinking about expanding it further and retheming CATCF won't be cheap.

As we all know, Merlin don't go above and beyond...
