Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

Valhalla and Grand National were off all day recently.

I've been to BPB a lot this season and ride availability is generally excellent on any given day. I'm pretty sure Valhalla was needing a new part which explained the downtime ... as for Nash, who knows what that rattly but endearing monster is doing. The men with spanners are often fixing it but it generally does open back up fairly soon!

My AT visits have been fewer than usual (I'll ramp it back up in September!) but marred by broken rides and long queues. I've usually hit the 20 rides tally at AT on an off peak visit but have struggled to get 10 this season, not helped by the removal of SRQs

In contrast I have been racking up 10+ rides on Icon on a visit and also getting in plenty rides on everything else on my 'to ride' list. For me it's a no brainer at the moment which annual pass to grab out of the drawer but i sincerely hope AT get things sorted because my first love will always be Nemesis :D

Blimey, wicker man was on and off all day Tuesday and they even bothered to fix it at 5:15 for the late queue, maybe they thought they were working on a permanent solution if they left it all day then, or else there's more faults arising

I thought dave said they will even get a ride running with only 15 mins of the day left. Guess not today. What was down all day at BPB today?

When they can they do, doesn’t mean you don’t have all day closures just like the last time I visited Blackpool and Revolution never reopened after it’s afternoon of downtime. You sound like you have a grudge against a bit of machinery, I really would try and stop that as it is making you look a little silly.

Back on topic the downtime at Towers is showing no sign of improving which heading into the holidays is just another Merlin joke.

That's why I'm annoyed I had a great day at BPB last Sunday loosing count of the rides and at towers on Thursday and well errrrr only need 1 hand to count :-(

That’s fine but no need to get obsessive, last time i visited Towers (last Saturday) Wickerman was flying trains out of the station and downtime was as you would expect for a new ride (minimal). The rest of the park was downtime central. We know there is an issue, pretty sure Towers know too but they can’t seem to recruit the staff (wonder why!) and their safety processes are extreme and not value added.

So how come with Merlins billions of pounds (remember they say second only to Disney! ) they can't run a fully operational park wereas the Thompson family who are poor in comparison can?

The shareholders of BPB are the Thompson family, whereas the shareholders of Merlin are not the people making the decisions on where to spend money. The Thompsons only focus is on BPB and the two hotels, Merlin's focus is on a huge range of attractions.

Not making excuses for them but I'm sick of the "BPB can do it, why can't Towers" that I thought we'd got past a couple of years ago (and that's as a BPB pass holder who hasn't even been on Wickerman yet).

I think you are over playing the Thompson families ability to keep rides running. In the last week the big one stalled for a start.

Pleasure beach is not traditionally a throughput park or known for its fantastic ride uptime. Part of the reason comparisons are silly is there isn’t a constant running commentary on Icons downtime or an app to show folk what’s happening when they are not in the park unlike Towers.

For sure Towers issues are FAR worse than anything happening at Blackpool at the moment and Merlin should be ashamed but the Thompson’s are not the epitome of park operators. You need to visit a little know park in Germany to see that :p

German Efficiency > Everything else.

When I visited Six Flags Great Adventure Ops were on the same sort of level as Towers right now. Running multiple theme parks is hard and sometimes you can't always fix issues. Like Wicker Man being down all today. If a part broke, a part broke. Merlin can't do anything about that until GCI fix it.

With Europa if Blue Fire part breaks, the factory is just up the road. Europa have their ops on lock.
