Theme Park Worldwide

I bet he is just the same person off camera as on isn’t he?

I don't know, I've never watched any of his vlogs

He is very passionate in what he does, he knows the industry, he is very chatty, always polite, always will stop to talk to people and have his photo taken when star struck people spot him. He is just a lovely guy. He has always been good to Jess and me. Like I said, I've never watched his vlogs and I just know Shaw as Shaw. He is still the same person that I met and spoke to many years ago before I ever knew or heard about Theme Park World Wide or before I ever knew that he worked at Alton resort.

If they have asked Shawn to remove his video, then they also have to ask every single person that has posted a video of the fireworks on social media to remove them. Otherwise in law, this goes against the equal rights and Shaw could say that his has been targeted if he is singled out allowing other people to be able to film and post the fireworks.
Which law? We typically hunt down those with the largest audience and ignore those with three followers, one of which is typically their mum.

Which law?

Equality act under human rights . They can't single people out.

It was Shaw that video the show, he owns the rights to that video not the park. I know that Shaw is not the only one that video and posted it on line. I know that there is at least someone else that tries and video the event and tries to be the first person to post it online before anyone else.

The only thing that Towers could argue, is that Shaw makes money from the video, so he could be classed as filming for commercial reasons.

I saw a FB post by that Attractions Images guy saying that AT had asked him to take his fireworks video down until after the Sunday display had finished. It appears that he had the decency to do so. I'm sure Shawn had the right to keep it up, but the question is, but why wouldn't you just take it down for a couple of days if you were asked by a place that you seemingly really like and have an enthusiasm for?

In the profession of YouTube speed is of essence. I am sure he worked into the early hours of the morning editing so why should he loose out on revenue? As I have said before and others, if you don’t want spoilers don’t watch. Merlin have odd views on spoilers. As soon as you enter DBGT you are told not to reveal anything but what did they do before most public had entered? Have a press night and let them wear cameras.

Alton Towers cannot have it all their own way. They invite fan sites and vloggers along to events and request that things are posted on social media using their selected hashtags. Then they ask the same people not to post things such as the fireworks because it might spoil it for others.

If you are looking for a video of the fireworks show then chances are you aren't bothered about the spoilers. And you are not accidently going to watch a 25 minute video by mistake without realising what it is.

So are you saying that he's now so much more interested in the likes and revenue from the places he visits rather than the actual places and people that he couldn't forego a couple of days worth of views on one video out of the probably thousands that he's done? This for supposedly his 'home park' and one which gave him a job and most certainly helped forge his theme park enthusiasm from a young age. Would have seemed like the decent thing to do just for a couple of days but maybe my expectations of people are just too high.

Which again brings into the question of the T&C’s of entry, doesn’t that then make a YouTube upload a commercial / public purpose which is prohibited.

DBGT is a valid point, if it’s for official PR then it seems it doesn’t matter. Didn’t Towers enforce an embargo on the videos of Wicker Man?

Some people really care far too much about something that has no impact on their own lives. Why can't people just let Shawn (and others) get on with what they are doing as, what is in effect, their job? And worry about things that actually matter.

I think that'd be a pretty weak case.

Yes... I don't think that they would treat Sharon who has put up a selfie and a video to her 400 facebook friends the same as a commercial vlogger with 200K subscribers who has posted a high quality edited film of the whole display.

I don't think the equality act would require them to treat them the same either!

Such logic from a man who calls a roller coaster SteVe....

The thing is, this is a forum. Hardly anything posted on here, in any topic, has an impact on our own lives. You could argue that there is no point in contributing at all.

But it does though? This is a forum about Alton Towers and theme parks. Pretty much all of us visit those theme parks. What those theme parks do therefore impacts on our lives. TowersStreet (previously TowersTimes) has impacted on my life enourmously, not least because it's where I've met so many incredible people.

If theme parks do not impact your life then chances are you'll never come across this forum.

Shawn's videos have no impact on your life unless you watch them on a regular basis and take enjoyment from them. Those moaning about him and his videos clearly do not fit that criteria but for some reason want to find fault in what he is doing. I just don't get it.

I do agree, but in the social media age everyone has an opinion about everything, I don't think it's limited to anything or anyone specifically.

On a coaster forum just shy of 20 years ago, with Millennium Force having just opened, two people who had trekked out to Ohio had an opinion about it. Everyone else asked questions and awaited grainy photos and bad CGI.

Fast forward two decades, a bunch of people have an opinion about a ride that's opened in China three days prior because they've watched a POV and seen some vlogger gushing over it in Mandarin.

That actually made me laugh out loud. Thank you.

It depends how you define "impacts my life". I have an interest in Theme Parks, but would my life change if Alton Towers closed a rollercoaster? No. Would my life change if they closed the park entirely? Maybe slightly, but I'd live, as would everyone else in here. A lot of people are on here (I'm guessing) because of their interest in theme parks, not because of the impact that said theme parks have on their lives.

As I've previously said I have no issue with Shawn's product, even if it isn't to my taste. A lot of what he does is very good, and he clearly has a huge passion for the business. What I don't agree with is the fact that some people seem to view him as royalty and don't accept that he makes mistakes, like everyone does. When he does something that maybe isn't right, like ignoring Towers request to take his fireworks video down for 2 days, fanboys jump to his defence.

I genuinely think people would cut him a lot more slack if others didn't defend everything he does with such passion. Like I've said EVERYONE makes mistakes.

I was very annoyed that he posted a really early video of the Wickerman pre-show but spoiled the whole projection mapped head by having it as the thumbnail.
