I can see why you say that because it is a very short ride admittedly but that drop is soooooooooo good nd intense and it's got the old school b&m restraints rather than the best restraints making it more comfortable. Besides what would you replace oblivion with:p
 
The drop has some nice floater and on the pull out the tunnel you feel the speed, however the waiting on the brake run makes it something i just do once or twice at most, it feels like you could get 2 rides on nemesis with the time it takes you to walk oblivion’s queue, ride it and sit on the brake run.

I would miss it, but in more of a nostalgic way, if towers said tomorrow here’s a coaster with a decent layout or even a dark ride, I’d snap their hands off.
 
Blivvy still gets me all these years on. I must have ridden it over 100 times and I still brick it when dangling over the edge. Not many coasters I can say that on. Big One drop is taller and I don't have that moment of fear that Blivvy creates.

It might be a one drop wonder but it's an incredible landmark ride. And it still does its job as it scares the bejesus out of most people who ride it even to this day. I have a few friends who will come along to Towers once in and blue moon and they wont ride it so that shows it has a strong fear factor.

Might as well make it a vertical drop as they couldn't do that on Oblivion in 1998. Might as well stick the Blade in the tunnel making it the world's first underground pirate ship or world's deepest pirate ship 115ft below ground!
 
I was one of the lucky ones who looked down the Oblivion hole during construction...due to the need for construction working space at the bottom, the hole was absolutely huge.
It would probably have had space for the whole of a certain dead rodent down there, as well as the Blade and Bobsleigh.
Spent more time staring at the site and down the hole that year than going on the rides!
Made it the meet up point for all the years visits..."you want food/drink/company...meet you by the big hole over there."
 
Sorry to bump this thread a little, but mildly related to the previous posts in here about Oblivion, I have one that might be a bit controversial; as much as Oblivion’s hole is a marvel of engineering, I actually think that the fact the drop is underground makes the ride seem less dominating and scary compared to other Dive Coasters. At least, it does for me anyway.

In terms of some other ones, that I’m not sure if I mentioned:
  • In spite of the fact it impresses me from a technical standpoint, I didn’t particularly rate Olympia Looping as an actual ride experience.
  • Back row is my least favourite row on Megafobia, and front row is my favourite.
  • I prefer Galactica to Manta, as far as B&M flying coasters go, and by more of a distance than you might expect.
  • Even though it’s far from my favourite coaster, and I found the standing position slightly odd, I actually rather liked Shockwave at Drayton Manor. Or maybe I should say that I didn’t dislike it, as most seem to loathe stand ups in general.
  • While I thoroughly enjoyed Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom, and thought it was a very clever and well put together attraction, it’s not quite among my very top Disney World attractions or among my very top dark rides.
  • I didn’t particularly rate Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom.
  • I kind of liked DinoRama at Animal Kingdom, in spite of the fact that Primeval Whirl is among my least favourite coasters.
  • I prefer Gringotts to Forbidden Journey, out of the two Harry Potter dark rides in Orlando.
  • I prefer Thirteen to Expedition Everest.
 
Don’t worry Matt PW has closed, you don’t rate Dinosaur? WHAT!! FOP is meh, it will be interesting to know where you put Hargids when you get on it.

I don’t know why, but Dinosaur didn’t do a whole lot for me, personally. As much as it’s admittedly an impressive ride from a technical standpoint, I just remember it being very dark and overwhelming, and I remember the transit system being very jolty in comparison to similar rides like SpiderMan (which I absolutely love, and seems to generally be far smoother in terms of how the ride system moves). Maybe I just need to ride it again to see if I can revise my opinion, as it is very heavily praised and I seem to be in a huge minority who doesn’t particularly rate it?

With regards to Flight of Passage; I still really, really liked it, and I think it’s a great dark ride, but I’ll admit that I was a bit underwhelmed after having gone in with all the hype it gets. Even though most have it as either their favourite Disney World ride, their favourite dark ride or even their favourite ride period, it’s not any of these things for me, even if I’ll admit that it’s a very clever and well put together attraction, and with all of the very superlative reviews it often gets, I didn’t think it quite lived up to the hype in that regard for me.

I’m hoping I can get on Hagrid’s in 2022 if all goes well; I’ll admit I’m very excited to ride, as I love Harry Potter and the ride itself looks very fun, immersive and rerideable! It’s VelociCoaster that has me really excited, though, at least in track and train terms; that ride does look absolutely sublime!
 
Dinosaur and Flight of Passage are both amazing! FOP is actually my favourite ride at Disney and my second favourite ride altogether!
I have to disagree with Oblivion, I think the fact the drop goes into a hole makes it MORE intimidating.
I also disagree about Manta and Galactica, I personally prefer Manta, but I will say that I agree with preferring Th13teen over Everest - I find Everest slightly too rough (still a great coaster though) but that backwards section on the back is horribly intense (others might not find it to be but it's genuinely the only time I've nearly blacked out).
Interesting to see different opinions though but I can admittedly shocked about Dinosaur and FOP as I genuinely believe they are both top quality.
 
Here's an unpopular opinion: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is not the brilliant dark ride many make it out to be. Sure it's great, but I don't think it is as impressive as it perhaps should be and it does feel a little clumbsy at times.

What do you mean? I know that my high Icon ranking is also an uncommon opinion in itself, but I’m not entirely sure what you mean here.

Dinosaur is meant to feel like you are on a jeep type vehicle on terrain inhabited by dinosaurs, it should feel like a rough off-road experience. You need to do Indiana Jones at Disneyland for a less-dark ride with the same vehicle system.

I also much prefer Gringotts to Forbidden Journey though. FJ is just too vomit-inducing.

As I said above, I can’t quite pinpoint why Dinosaur didn’t do much for me. I can make some guesses; for example, I seem to just remember it being very dark and overwhelming as opposed to fully themed in the way that most Disney dark rides are. While that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it doesn’t personally appeal to me. I probably do need to revisit Animal Kingdom and reassess, however, as I admit I must either be judging it incorrectly or not properly getting it seeing as I’m practically the only person who doesn’t seem to particularly like it.

Flight of Passage is still a ride I really enjoyed, but I think I’m only saying that it didn’t live up to the hype for me because some of the reviews I’d heard prior to going on it in April 2019 were very, very gushing and did raise my expectations to an obscenely high level. I was expecting it to wow me like nothing ever has before based on those reviews, and for it to be right up there as one of my very top attractions, but it didn’t quite do that for me, personally. It was a lovely, lovely ride that I really enjoyed, don’t get me wrong, but not something I was absolutely enthralled by in the way that most seem to be.

With regard to Oblivion; the reason I think it seems less intimidating than other Dive Coasters to me is because I do think sheer size does add something to the intimidation for me. I know that this is outside of Alton Towers’ control, so I think Oblivion is about as intimidating as it can be within planning constraints, but with something like SheiKra, I personally feel that the fact it’s absolutely massive does really add to the intimidation for me, whereas I don’t really get that with Oblivion, personally. I enjoy and appreciate the hole in other ways (it makes the drop feel incredibly fast, and it’s an absolute marvel of engineering), but I don’t think it really intimidates me as much as SheiKra did, personally.

The reason that Manta ranks lower than Galactica for me is because even though Manta is more intense, I personally find Galactica quite a bit more enjoyable, and that’s simply because I personally found Manta’s pretzel loop way too intense for my liking, and the rest of it seemed pretty intense, as well. I’ll admit that I only rode Manta once, and nearly 5 years ago at that, so I may need to reassess.

Each to their own, however; everyone has their own different opinions and things they like in a ride!

Even though I think bits of it are very impressive from a creative and thematic standpoint, I didn’t particularly enjoy Valhalla.

I think a lot of people agree with that on the grounds that it is probably 'too' wet, apparently it is a horrible experience in February but you would have to be mad to ride it then.
