Micro-joys - the little things as an adult that make you happy/ find joy in

Being an adult is not really what I expected when growing up. I find myself finding joy and pleasure in the most ridiculous, small things - I felt the need to document them in some way and thought a communal effort here would be fun. I suppose these things are really 'micro-joys'. Feel free to join in.

Here are a couple to start:

I changed the blade on my razor this morning... is there anything better than a fresh, sharp edge to start the day?

That feeling when you get to your desk, turn your computer on and your system starts to update. You then have no choice but to go to the kitchen with your 'work bestie' to make coffee and gossip about everyone and anything.... for a whole 'free' 20 minutes.

Getting to work early enough to get a decent parking space.

Train seats that are next to the luggage racks so you don't have anyone facing you.

Tasting the first bite of a Papa Johns pizza dipped in garlic butter sauce when you're hungover.

This is going to sound strange, but I find it weirdly satisfying when I'm able to walk from Cheltenham Spa train station to my university campus in a faster time than usual, or vice versa. On occasion, I have a weird little competition with myself to see if I can beat my personal best for how fast I can do the walk!

Google Maps says that the walk should take 23 minutes if you take the shortcut onto and off campus. I've done this short route in 15 minutes before, and even the slightly longer scenic route only takes me 20-25 minutes on a good day.

My, that day I did the walk in 15 minutes was satisfying!

I'll see if I can think of any other weirdly satisfying things...

Papa Johns have stopped sending the Special Garlic sauce for free and switched to the Garlic & Herb.
My husband is happy, he did not like the oily fake butter sauce so he is happier, but I loved it. Garlic & Herb isn't the same.

I noticed that when I opened the box. Thankfully I always order extra sauce so I wasn’t just stuck with the garlic and herb.

Because it’s **** pizza.
I haven't ordered Domino's in ages. It's just far too expensive for what you get these days. We've tended to go to an independent place more recently when we've wanted pizza - it's cheaper, for starters, and it tastes just as good. Plus there's more variety in terms of toppings compared to Domino's.

Back in the day, our 'date night' go-to was to have pizza delivered - either Domino's or Papa John's. Then I realised I could pop to Sainsbury's get home and cook it faster than Domino's delivers, for a quarter of the price and a much better pizza to boot.

Walking into the kitchen at the EXACT moment the dishwasher or washing machine finishes.

… And then pretending you didn’t notice it and ******* off back out the room so that someone else will actually empty it.
