Strange questions that sometimes need answering (or not asking in the first place really).

One for the Star Trek fans. A debate betwixt m'lady and I.

At the start of Generations, where is 1701-B launched from? (The whole issue of being the only ship available in the sector still applies no matter where it's launched from, so let's ignore that plot hole).

I say it's obviously intended to be San Fransico Fleet Yards (Earth orbit). She suspects Utopia Panetia (Mars orbit).

I've tried Memory Alpha, no joy.

I've looked up the dedication plaque from the bridge. All Ship bridge sets have one, and they say where the ship was built.
.... Except that the B, C, and NX plaques conveniently leave that off!

I might have to trawl through Ex Astris, but that can get distracting very quickly. Could take days...

I would say earth, judging by the image below

I would say that earth. As it's blue.

Hmmm, pretty good evidence, but It could still be another planet. It's obviously not Vulcan or Andoria. Might be Tellar Prime? That's got an Earth like climate.

Aha.

Captain bloke from Ferris bueller tells the press they will go round pluto for a "quicktrip around the block",

In the music video for Missy Elliot's "Pass That Dutch"..... Why are they all doing Irish dancing?

Because, in 1588, the Dutch formed part of the Spanish Armada. Whilst travelling down to join the Spanish fleet, by first going North around Scotland, the Dutch hit a storm and became stranded on the coast of County Sligo, Ireland...

**** knows. Because drugs?

Originates from the avian history lesson above...dutch style cooking pot being passed round the table to the left, in Jamaica, and the joint following in the same direction.
This conversation was first had repeatedly in the era of Musical Youth, all those (four) decades ago.
I'm a hogger, I pass nothing.

After watching the first episode of the new series of The Secret Genius of Modern Life with Hannah Fry (an absolutely fabulous programme, by the way!), I’m finding myself wondering; why is it that so many scientific innovations of the past arose from happy lab accidents?

Even in one episode of Hannah Fry’s programme alone (centred around air fryers), both nichrome heating elements and non-stick coatings came from lab accidents where the inventors were looking to discover something totally different and just stumbled across their discoveries by complete accident. I find that really quite mad!

Did they have more of a can-do attitude back in the day? Was it a more laissez-faire approach to safety? Were they just more experimental? I do wonder!

It's like a set of car keys.

You will find everything else you have needed in the last week, looking for your car keys. But not your car keys.

I have another random question for you all today after my mum has been blasting out music on the Alexa all morning.

Why is that the vast majority of songs seem to centre around romantic love? There are tons of topics one could sing about, but it feels like the vast, vast majority of artists primarily sing about romance and sub-themes relating to that.

I’ve long wondered why this is, and have never been able to work it out. Can anyone on here enlighten me?

I suppose because songwriting as an art form is generally about expressing ones feelings and feelings of love are often the most powerful ones that people experience. It's also a subject most people can relate to in some form another.

You'd think that people would've had enough of silly love songs,
But I look around me and I see it isn't so,
Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs,
And what's wrong with that?
I'd like to know,
'Cause here I go again...

There's a large subsection of songs which are about love, but I wouldn't say that the vast majority of them are. I lot of earlier pop songs were most certainly about love. I love you, you love him, you love her, don't you want me? Let's hold hands...

If you were to look at The Beatles early work, a lot of it fits into the love pattern, but as they progressed throughout their career you start to see other themes emerge. Loss, sorrow, war, friendship, money, taxes, drugs.

There aren't really many themes in Mr Blobby, Teletubbies Say Eh Oh or The Ketchup Song though.

You hold prejudice against Bob the Builder?
Best drunken/kids crossover christmas number one ever.
Pop music is for teens.
They are learning and lusting for love, and little else in truth, unless they are a bit thoosie.
All gone though by your mid twenties...hence the pirates Beatles stuff above.
