Came home from a weekend away to find that my village has been taken over by the St George's flag warriors. Every village gateway sign, every lamp-post down my road, even the zebra crossing and the mini roundabout now bear a symbol of xenophobia and division. Just fantastic.

Luckily it's not happened around here just yet. But we do have our own version.
The local parish put flags up around the village to mark different occasions. Pride, Yorkshire day, national flags of other nations during international tournaments and so on. One local chap, has taken umbridge and decided, as a favour to local village. He bought enough St George's to hang on the village flag poles and donate to village.
I am actually sick of this over the top patriotism.
Sadly, a large flag on the garden trellis of a local pub on the boundary between very mixed Blackburn and the very non mixed Ribble Valley, right on my beloved Devil's Highway, the A666.
I don't think it will do much for trade, not with the local white flight and dodgy economy.

I've seen someone point out.
Having all the flags up, on roundabouts, paths etc. is actually disrespectful. They will become tatty, traffic and feet will trampling all over it. Not sure if it's same over here. If the flag is disrespected In that way in America, they burn the flag. Can't wait for some lamppost to be up in smoke.

Our drive from Dover back to Berkshire earlier this week had us spotting several motorway bridges littered with the Union Jack, Saint George's Cross and one or two variants. I'm aware an area in my very multi-cultural town has had multiple instances of SGC hung and spray painted near a mosque. Just, ugh, NO!
Although it's worth mentioning, as per Highways Act 1980, flying flags on public highways require permission from the highway authority and land owners. If flags must be hung, they have to be done so for advertising purposes or from a permanent flagpole with planning permission. Under section 132(2), the highway authority can remove the flags if they're causing disruption and confusion to road users. Ergo, public flag hanging without permission is considered an offence. And graffiti is also a criminal offence that can receive a fixed penalty, fine or prison sentence. So, y'know, all this 'patriotism' counts as criminal activity.
Also, yes, seconded on unskippable YT ads.

Oddly, I haven’t seen any St George’s Cross flags painted around my area. A house down the street is currently flying a Union Jack on a flagpole, but they always have a flag of some description flying there.
Granted, I live in an area with a very low non-British population compared to most of England, but even still, immigration was said to be a key voting issue by my then local MP (admittedly a Tory) at the last election, and the area did have a Reform vote share of nearly 20% and a Brexit vote of around 60%, so immigration does seem to matter to people around here.
Are the flags mainly being painted in areas with high non-British populations, or is my area just an outlier?

In general, you'll probably find a strong correlation between the amount of England flags seen on the streets, local levels of academic achievement and how economically challenged an area is. You can make your own minds up which way that goes. Obviously there will be the odd exceptions to the general rule.

Email from a company I work for:
"Log in to your [company] portal account NOW, or else it will be deleted, and you will be un-boarded!"
Erm, I'm a contractor. I've been working for them for a good few years now. Timesheets and payroll aside, if any other account was created in my name, this is the first I've heard of it.
They say it's been inactive for over 60 days. So who exactly has been logging in to keep it active all these years, if not me?

The rule in south Yorkshire, seems to be areas where the mines once stood and the decline had just kept going. So there will be a high mix of Eastern Europeans in the area. On my little milk run, the flag of Reform is flown in a couple of spots.
So far, in the area I live which is west Yorkshire. Someone has been polite and donated to the local council to put up. , because the pride flag was "over bearing." We should be proud of our heritage. Which is bizarre, as the village has a NORMAN church and the foundations of a long gone NORMAN fort.
I wonder if the in 1066 the Brits at the time were writing "stop the boats." In Latin around the gaff.
