2025: General Discussion

Read some of the comments from those in the program and you’ll soon see why. Bigger influencers were allowed to say what they wanted whereas smaller ones were bullied to be overly positive and refused access to certain events unless they were .
Add in “limited slot” raffled experiences that the same favourite influencers somehow randomly got picked every time and you can see why it was doomed

I am not a content creator, but was aware of this program (mainly due to when some content creators left it last season for not being "on message" enough).

It sounds very like history repeating itself. Back in the mid-late 2000's James Paulding & Russell Barnes introduced a Customer Council (think that was what it was called). They invited applications from anyone interested, but the Council ended up being disproportionally made up of people involved in pro-Alton Towers websites (and for the record, I did not apply to be a member). The Customer Council was disbanded after a season or two.

It seems Alton Towers don't like criticism, even when it is justified, i.e. 2025 opening day fiasco.

Yes, I remember this well. I was the main 'ranter' about this at the time. Good times.

If my memory serves me correctly, there was one season where the Customer Council had people who'd generally be described as theme park enthusiasts, and one season where it was parents who weren't necessarily part of an enthusiast community. In fact, they might have tried to select parents who weren't part of the enthusiast community, on the basis that they'd represent the views of a bigger segment of visitors. I don't think the change in the second year necessarily means the first year wasn't a success though. I think they just wanted to capture feedback from different demographics.

I wonder if we’ll see any changes to TWODW given the recent reports that have just come out. Not a great look for the park having a themed land based around a (now more concrete) dodgy bloke.

Amusingly, not 20 minutes before that story dropped our school sent round an email saying they'd be doing a David Walliams themed event next term.

Difficult to see how AT can realistically respond as it's all or nothing with that area, particularly Gangsta Granny.

If it forces their hand to create something new that will be good (in theory) but in reality it's much more likely to mean another season with closed attractions.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised to see the entire area closed for the season. There’s not enough time to do anything substantial, nor is there likely to be the budget to do anything beyond remove any Walliums-associated branding.

I guess a lot of this also depends on the term of the licensing agreement.

Popping by to remind everyone to exercise caution, and to discourage speculation, when discussing the alleged recent behaviour of David Walliams.

Please let's not post anything which is likely to get the poor mods, or users, into a spot of legal bother.

The Telegraph's original article is here (it's their exclusive and investigation) with the paywall link removed. https://archive.is/Bv8E1

Whilst they report that Walliams' behaviour is described as "inappropriate", they do not suggest that it is illegal.

HarperCollins have said that they're no longer going to continue to publish new novels, but it's unclear about the author's back catalogue and previously published material. It seems as though they will continue to publish those, for now at least.

I am always amused to watch the slow snowballing of hate regarding certain celebrities...and this guy has really been a glorious example.

Shut the ride.
Shut the whole land.
Close down the park!

Possible dodgy past coming back to haunt, fresh waves of correctness in humour, all mixed up with a slice of innocent until proved guilty.
