Thorpe Park: General Discussion

To be honest, if Merlin and Thorpe Park aren't willing to operate Rumba Rapids for the full season anymore, what's the point in having it open at all?

Whatever the reason for the reduced operating season? Whether it is cost cutting or issues with the ride itself, it is clear that the ride was on it's last legs and couldn't operate for much longer.

One thing that was a bit of a shame was the ride signs saying "Returning in 2026", this gave off a bit of deja vu of Loggers Leap being promised to come back after a refurbishment but more immediate.

Moving forwards, it definitely needs something fresh for the site.

My thoughts is that it would either be a record breaking wooden rollercoaster or an Intamin Blitz coaster (possibly intertwined with a launched Intamin Flume like Catapult Falls but that's a dream). An RMC would be an absolute dream but realistically, Merlin probably won't work with them.

Let's get some planning consultations happening please 🥺 and include the Slammer site for a plan for 2027 too.

I know everyone wants an intamin multi launch or an RMC to go on rumba's plot but honestly I'm rooting for a large scale GCI - Wicker Man was obviously a massive success for Towers so imo it seems like a no brainer to go bigger with another at Thorpe since the tallest and fastest woodie in the UK are easily achievable records. Hopefully someone at Merlin has had a keen eye on Colossus at Qiddiya but even a more typical GCI in the style of Thunderhead, Renegade etc would be very welcome
Will add to the point with the woodie, it's a 1.2m coaster so it's a win win situation for Thorpe if they went for one.

Chessington had Mandrill Mayhem to bridge the gap between the parks so I'd imagine this will do the same but on the lower end. I'd say even if it is as tall as the other coasters, there would be the factors of no inversions and with a lot of airtime which is different to the other coasters.

It's something more accessible but thrilling which I'd say Thorpe is likely to be looking for.

Am I being stupid yet where is the official announcement from the park itself? Sorry if been asked, I can't find it other than a you tube users video of saying goodbye ?!

I don't think the park have made an official announcement, most people I've seen are quoting Jack Silkstone.
I would not be surprised if Rumba Rapids are going but if they are then that leaves the park with a pretty small lineup that has slowly been reduced over the past few years. The park have to be particularly careful as they rely a lot on aging flat rides (Detonator, Vortex, Zodiac, Samurai, Quantum and Rush).
Edit: this video was coproduced by Thorpe and Silkstone so it's basically an official announcement:

Thorpe have lost the plot in my opinion. A family ride without a send off! Such a shame. It's the lies I hate.. back in 2026 and then it will be just left to rot...

My feeling is stealth will be left to rot in the next few years and then the whole area will be replaced with a new coaster, we will still be down a ride but that will be in the 2030s.

They wouldn't leave stealth to rot since it's part of the skyline and would look really bad, rumba they could just put a wall around it and most guests wouldn't bat an eye

Silkstone is the park's official brand ambassador, I believe he's hired by Thorpe for the role from what I understand.

Of course, they would use him to do an announcement and it's as official as it gets 😁

No one will mourn rumba rapids itself but I feel
this is cost cutting rather than preparing for a new investment.

Plus like Towers how many rides can they cut before you can legit call yourself a theme park?
