Paultons Park: General Discussion

Here is an old video of Paultons Park from its own YT page (circa 2009, many many years ago now):

This was when the theme park was more local, still relatively unknown, and not so different from when it was first established in 1983 (apart from the family thrill rides). In the helicopter shots you can spot the more plain areas where future themed areas were built....

I grew up visiting Paultons, remember when The Stinger was the only roller coaster and watching with intrigue as they built Flying Frog (now Dino Chase). Cobra going in felt like a massive thing at the time.

Pretty amazing seeing where the place is at now.

The Cobra family coaster is a pretty underrated mid range thrill ride for the UK actually and was, in retrospect, perhaps the real ignition for Paultons' unexpected massive expansion through the 2010s and 2020s (the Peppa Pig land fueled or sustained it):

It's just a mild shame Drakon is widely deemed a fairly outdated or conservative higher range thrill ride (but a fusion of Wickerman type theming and a hopefully toned down SAW is not a loser).

The 2027 site is pretty dang big (but now Paultons has reached it limits without badly impacting the natural landscape).

An interesting statistic I was looking up today: If you include all coasters that are under construction in the UK opening in 2026, Paultons has seen the largest number of new coaster installations in the last 10 years of any UK park. Between 2016 and 2026 we have:

Paultons - 5
Towers - 2 (excludes reborn)
Chessington - 2
Flamingoland - 1
Thorpe - 1
Blackpool - 1
Drayton - 1 (excludes the wave)

You could argue the excluded could be included but even still, that’s a really great trajectory.

Bear in mind Thorpe, Chessington, and Altons expanded dramatically back in the 80s, 90s, and early 00s (when Paultons was a lower key very local park through all of that time, then expanded dramatically when those parks were relatively ossifying in the Merlin era until more recently).

As the Super Fans Day is now only just over a month away, which we hope will see the announcement of the 2027 Valgard expansion.....

What does everyone think the name of the 2027 ride will be?

I appreciate we don't even know what the ride is yet (heavily assumed to be a water ride), but thought it might be fun to guess the name...

Could they go for the something more creative such as a specific viking related name such as Odin or Jurmangandur (not sure if that's the right spelling). Or could they go for something more basic?

Odin is linked much more to the Cobra revamped as Raven coaster (ravens are his spies), while I think the Jörmungandr (or the World Serpent) will likely be the overarching theme for the 2027 suspected water coaster.

Given the final level of the Valgaurd game features a sea serpent, I'm guessing that the water ride and it's name will be themed around that.

I was undecided between a Mack SuperSplash and a Mack Water Coaster, but now we've seen some of the footers, it does look much more like it'll be the Water Coaster.

As for the theme, I'm trying to recall whether there are any Norse sea serpents other than Jörmungandr, and I don't think there are. I don't think they'd avoid using the same name as Drayton Manor, personally, but they could always use one of its other names, such as the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent. How about "Serpent Splash"?
