And we're off to a flying start this year!

Reported on CoasterForce; the Boomerang at Fantasilandia in Santiago, Chile has managed to split it's difference only a few months after an inspection from Vekoma gave it the all clear. Not only that, but it was caught in full 480x640, shakey/dodgy, amateur on-ride style.

The news report with the on-ride footage (action starts at around 0:23):

Sensationalism aside, it's a good job the back half made it back to the station or this could have been a lot worse.

So, so, so lucky. It seems like the ride system detected an error, slammed all on after the 2nd lift, and the back half started a new life of it's own. Can't imagine how the passengers felt.

Hi guys, just so you know Watchdog Test House currently has a feature on fair and park safety that some might find interesting. They are looking at safety procedures at Drayton Manor. It's on now but will probably be iPlayer.

Indeed, it opened in December 2011. Something very major went wrong there, it could have been a lot worse than it was in the end.

:)

Oh no, Hope the injuries are not serious.
One man told the Gazette that there was “blood everywhere”.

Yes there would be, An egg cup of blood look a lot when spread around. Plus the way blood in fed around the scalp means it bleed more readily than other areas of the body.

Looking at the photo on the website it would appear that there is a gap between the landing pad and the platform requiring you to launch yourself forward onto the mat. Very sad but a clear safety flaw with such an attraction.

A 10 year old girl died on Revolution at SFMM on Friday. The death apparently seemed unrelated to the ride, although the ride closed and since its reopening the brakes appear to have been altered. More at California Coaster Kings.

Cedar Point have posted this on Facebook:
Cedar Point said:
At approximately 5 p.m., a guest entered a restricted, fenced area of the Raptor roller coaster and was struck by the ride. Park safety officials responded immediately to the situation. Unfortunately the guest has passed away. Local authorities are on the scene conducting an investigation.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time.

Very sad but they are restricted ride areas for a reason. Hopefully no-one on the ride was hurt but no doubt some saw something pretty horrible.

:)

Don't get me wrong, the poor staff who had to deal with it get sympathy. I'm not totally heartless, you know. ;)

Another idiot proving darwin theory correct, and doing so affected others. I hope no one on the carriage was injured, and anyone involved in the aftermath is given the right support.
