Ride/park accidents 2015

Echoing really - sympathy for the guests on the train that struck the man, sympathy for any witnesses, and sympathy for those who had to deal with the incident. I hope they will have plenty of support, for some it may be extremely traumatic. But not really sorry for the guest who's died, I'm sad to say (which is rare for me).

I've seen the photo showing the place it occurred, and it's not Monster's shrubbery. When an area is clearly fenced off, and you can un-obstructively see the ride passing through it, and said fence is obviously there for your own safety... what do you think is going to happen if you clamber over it into that restricted area where you shouldn't be? I'd learned this stuff by age 8/9 with the railway safety videos we had to watch in school, so a 40yr old should have better sense.

Unfortunately, the park are likely to get the blame for it - like not being a big enough fence or enough signs. Which is a shame, because the fault doesn't appear to be theirs at all. :/

It just goes to emphasise our point that regardless of how secure a ride area is, it only takes one determined individual to do something crazy like this that leads to a loss of a life.

It's a good job the Mirror aren't in the U.S.

It's been confirmed that the guest was trying to retrieve personal belongings from the ride area that he lost during the ride. Why you wouldn't tell staff to see if there was anything they could do is beyond me. A very big price to pay and a very stupid thing to do.

:)

do they have the danger of death signs up? o_O
Should they need to?
There's the ride, there's a fence keeping me away from it. He'd just been on the ride, so knew how large, solid and fast it goes. The park have taken reasonable steps to keep the public safe from being hurt without spoiling the experience, that's their responsibility, and it's then ours as guests to not behave stupidly but use some common sense and take personal responsibility in acknowledging safety measures.
Unfortunately there are just certain people who would ignore a 'danger of death' sign if it was there, just as this man ignored the fence.

I bet there were a ton of signs stating you should secure all loose articles before going on the ride though.

If people were even slightly intelligent, there would be no need for danger of death signs. People would have enough common sense to see that there is a big, fast-moving object that goes through the area.

Accidents like these just aren't fair on the people on the ride/in the queue/having to deal with it, but (at the risk of sounding harsh) the people who get killed deserved it.

Accidents like this give theme parks a bad name, even if their not responsible.

I think alton had it right with signs saying 'Danger ride area' and left it at that. It told you it was not just a fence, it was a edge of a ride area.
