It's the Little Things...

I want the hadnets audio back on the monorail. not the advert style of the audio that is softening you up for the mass up selling just inside the park.

It just needs turning up a bit. Only heard it once and that was when the three of us were sitting silently on our own in a pod.
ha , is the because when your with other members its noise noise noise chaos everywhere :p

Im not sure how the audio works, it cant be a wired connection as the pods are all independent, so must be wifi and running on batteries, so if they turn it up will drain the batteries more. :confused1:

I like having themed audio (audio depends on what train you're in). Only without the upselling. On the subject of the monorail, I'd like it if you could see out of them. I'd love to have ride themed ones. The nemesis train, the oblivion train, the smiler train (all with themed audio of course) just something that gives them something unique to the park (how many parks have a pirate theme)

Oh those where the days when you could ride the mono rail and look unhindered out on the park :(
I miss them

Shall we let people see the delights of the park. Naaaa keep them focused on the sales pitch. Sell sell sell. Least the individual trains had personality not the good awful local radio style adverts.

Those adverts just sounded like two people who needed money still awaiting there big break.

The monorail nowadays makes for a pretty dull journey - it's like being on a tram at rush hour.
The whole thing just needs simplifying in my opinion, used to be so much more exciting being able to see the park out of the windows whilst they whacked In The Hall Of The Mountain King over the speakers with just a short "welcome to Alton Towers"-type voiceover.

the only time they play ITHOTHM is coming into the station at the start of the day, this is also the only time I see newbies get excited when they hear it...

"It's the little things..." when you become so obsessed with the place you become apathetic about the big things.

No, it's the little things that add up to big things that you notice and make your day feel more complete. If the toilets are dirty or old or just plain shabby, there's always going to be a niggle in the back of your mind when you remember your day. "Alton Towers was amazing but the toilets were disgusting!"

For what it's worth, I haven't been in over a year.

There isn't really any "big things". It's all the small things adding up. Do you walk around dark forest, and think that it looks well maintained and well themed? I certainly don't. It's the scaffolding, and the lack of real theming, and the same music being used for two major rides (don't know if anyone else cares about it, but it seems quite lazy to me), and the poor storylines that lack any sense of immersion.

It's things like this that add up. Non of them will ruin your day, but if the issues are resolved it makes your day so much better.

The GP really don't rate there day on the quality of the toilets and I had to explain to most of my friends that there were themed areas and then they asked why they do that. People go for the rides and theming and toilets are an added extra not something they judge the day on

I get that, but I don't think anyone's saying that if the toilets were in a bit of a state it'd ruin their day, more that it'd detract from their experience and the small things add up. If it looks like things aren't being looked after as well as they should be, it might shake some people's confidence in the park management a little if standards aren't being met.

As we're talking about toilets.....

....This is a great pic of the Orangery (the smaller glasshouse) in the gardens in 1966 being used as toilets. The last time I had a peek inside several years back it was just used to store gardener's equipment.

However, the most interesting (and rarely seen) thing is the working fountain that's in place. There will have been several different pieces throwing water out of this fountain over a couple of hundred years but it's great to see one in place and working like this. This is/was saved for when I eventually get around to finishing off the book (about the gardens) but it's a shame not to put it out there for the time being with such a relevant topic ;)

Hopefully a fair few of you will recognize the area well ;)

I get both sides. It's toilets, won't bother some people. but I think they could put more effort in...
It'd be nice if they could add quirks to the toilet blocks like the toilets in the atrium of ATH. It really is the little things.

And really, how hard is it to find cello tape rather than a packaging sticker?!
