Universal Orlando (Studios/IOA/Epic Universe) : General Discussion

I find it a bit... strange. Yes Fallon is very popular in the US. Although that's like us having 'Ant and Dec: The Ride' just because they are popular TV presenters. I don't get it to be honest.

I must agree it is an odd choice, in a sort of interesting way. If it has the correct level of audience interaction it could be good, I suppose?

Moving back onto the topic of 'The Hulk' they really are being rather brutal!

I think we're about to enter the second, duller phase of Universal's golden era. Comcast are happy to splash the cash, but they've developed a formula, and they're clinging to it. So investment in the parks will continue to impress, but there's much less imagination and ambition on display than in the case of Potter, Kong (we presume), or even Springfield.

Fallon and F&F are relatively minor for Universal. Wait for their next big thing, Nintendo. There is plenty of imagination and ambition going into that, the Mario Kart ride is going to be like something never seen before if strong rumours are to be believed.

I get the impression that this Fallon ride is going to be based more upon some crazy race/journey through New York than the show itself so I'm sure guests that do not know who Jimmy Fallon is will still be able to appreciate the ride. I've never seen Revenge of the Mummy but heck I love that ride, it's my favourite at Universal.

Saying all of that I do agree that Universal have gone screen crazy over the last few years. They take a lot of stick for it over on US forums.

:)

That's nonsense. Universal does have a broad, international audience, but even more so than Disney, most of it's custom is US based. Besides, Fallon is internationally recognised from Youtube alone. His 'lip-sync' battle videos featuring high profile celebrities are immensely popular. Personally, I find Fallon errs on the cheesy and sycophantic side as a host, but he is perfect for this ride, even I'm not too excited about it myself. Also, the bulk of the ride will be a virtual tour of NYC, which is about as universally appealing of a theme as you can find. Well, unless you're from New York...

Saying that, the screens stuff at Universal is getting silly. I'm well aware they're about to release a huge anamatronic ape on the world, but even the general public are beginning to clock on.
I am more annoyed with the fact when Merlin do a ride based on a bad ip, everybody moans but when Universal does, everybody is happy. I am just annoyed from the moaning in the Thorpe Park discussion.

Who's to say either are good or bad IPs right now anyway? Neither ride has been built! On a UK forum you are bound to see more frustrations with a UK based ride than a US based ride anyway.

I wouldn't say everyone is moaning about Derren Brown and everyone is happy about Fallon anyway. But even if they were, Universal have an excellent track record of great rides in recent years, Merlin not so much. Thety're far more likely to get the benefit of the doubt.

I really don't think this and Derren Brown are massively comparable anyway (even though I mentioned DB in my original Fallon post, it was more of a joke). Thorpe are getting a ride desiged by DB, it sounds like it's his concept. Universal are getting aa ride with Fallon's name and show attached to it but I doubt you will be in The Tonight Show for long and in reality the ride is a race through New York.

:)

I was just very disappointed seeing the announcement. It reminds me of the Superstar Limo at Disney California Adventure which was all about seeing celebrities.

To me it seems Universal is planning short than long term with new attractions based on popular IPS at the time.

But that's the point of the park? Who cares about the film Twister anymore? ET might be a classic but it's not exactly at the forefront of everyone's minds anymore... Universal Studios is full of IPs because that's the point of the place. Half the rides in the park will be fairly irrelevant in twenty years time but that's the nature of the park itself.

I don’t think the deconstruction of a coaster has ever been so intriguing.

The latest issue of Fun World magazine includes an artist impression of Volcano Bay. Obviously you can’t judge an attraction from one artist’s impression, and given Universal’s track record I should imagine they’ll come up with something pretty decent. It looks like a Volcano will be the centrepiece (no surprises there). Artificial mountains are one of Disney’s big things, so will be interesting to see how it compares. My first impression is that it all looks a bit generic, but that’s based on one illustration.

Sorry for being out of the loop but why are they de constructing The Hulk? Are they altering the layout of the ride in any way?

I don't think it's confirmed but I'm pretty sure they're just rebuilding it with the same layout, due to the ride becoming unacceptably rough in recent years.

Would be great though if they took the opportunity to rebuild everything after the MCBR to make it less pointless.

Just been reading through Orlando United and the budget for King Kong is $140 mill which equates to £90 mill, it is really going to be spectacular!
