Nickelodeon Universe for the UK

Just seen on Facebook that Nickelodeon have signed a deal to open up an amusement park area in the Lakeside shopping Centre, Thurrock!

The 1 acre site is due to ready in 2018.

It's obviously not going to be amazing at that size, but if it turns out to be popular it could well become similar to the Nickelodeon Universe park in the Mall of America. It's also interesting to see that Parques Reunidos are also involved in this.

(Can't be bothered to post links etc, on mobile and it's a pain)

If this is true, then that isn't bad! I've always been a fan of Nick Universe at MOA, so I'll be excited for this. Lakeside is not a bad choice, it's just across the Thames from the proposed Paramount Park, if that ever happens :p

As Ted says, the chosen location is very interesting. Both Nickelodeon and Paramount are Viacom assets so if the Paramount project does go ahead, Viacom will cinch that side of London and the South East with little problem. It could be a potential rival to the Merlin midway mitosis mania, especially on a rides and attraction basis, and no other major transnational entertainment company has yet done that (as far as I'm aware).

Worth noting as well that all of Merlin's Southern theme parks are west of London, so this will pretty be a West vs East divide in the Theme Park industry if Viacom get their parks open in Thurrock and Swanscombe. I live nearer to their (potential) parks as well, and other people in the east of the city won't have to trek across London no longer to get to a park if these two become a reality.

Hopefully they are able to pull this off, if they do get the go ahead I wonder if they will just make a clone park of MOA or if they will get more orginal rides. At MOA they really seem to squeezed in alot I hope they can do the same here, something like Tornado at Bakken would be good in a here as it fits in a relatively small space.

For those that don't know about the coaster X competition, it had to be orange and white as well... *Cough* Nickelodeon colours *cough* and this was the winner! This is it, I'm sure!

If they do clone MOA's version, then I think that'll be a good idea since they have a good variety of rides, coasters for example

1. Avatar Airbender - Intamin half pipe
2. Back at the barnyard hayride - Zamperla powered coaster
3. Fairly Odd Coasters - Gerst spinner
4. Pepsi Orange Streak - Zierer Tivoli
5. Spongebob's Rock Bottom Plunge - Gerst Eurofighter

Althougth preferably I'd prefer if the rides were a bit more unique. The video @Ryan B linked looks like a Maurer X-Car of some sorts, which would be interesting.

I believe in the rules it stated "Coming to a top secret location in the UK in 2018" or something similar as well so I believe this will be similar to this, interesting to note there is an observation tower in the middle of the file that NL2 users had to build in so could we see that as well? or maybe it was a place holder for a lovely intamin drop tower :p

Cool, I was in Thurrock last weekend and also went into the Lakeside. There is a huge amount of work going on the M25 between Thurrock and the Lakeside. I assumed they were just building bigger roundabouts for traffic reasons but possibly they are doing it expecting a big increase in traffic? (probably not)

The Lakeside already has a floating steamboat shaped steakhouse. It's already better themed than AT ;)

The NL2 CoasterX competition did not specify any opening date, plus the building was said to be the design of the actual building needed to be built upon, so sadly, I don't think this development is for this Nickelodeon entertainment complex. I'd love to be proved wrong though. :p

Most NL2 users saw a striking similarity with the old Tropicana water park at Weston-Super-Mare though. ;)

It’s always good to hear about developments in the UK theme park industry. Nonetheless, without wanting to rain on the parade, one acre isn’t a lot. Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America is about 7 acres, the same as Adventure Island in Southend.

If this one’s successful there’s no reason why it can’t expand, but one acre as a starting point is very small.

I’m also not sure how strong a brand Nickelodeon is in the UK. Nickelodeon Land at Blackpool Pleasure Beach didn’t seem to do as well as Thomas Land, Peppa Pig World or C Beebies Land.

I'd say it's quite popular. Spongebob alone is very popular in the UK as much as it is in the US. And most people will have at least heard of most of their older shows. I agree though, as an IP it's probably not as popular as Thomas, Peppa or Cbeebies, but these all originate from Britain so more people will known about them.

I've not been to Lakeside for a few years, but I remember it being quite a large complex, and believe it was one of the biggest shopping centres in the UK before both Westfields in London were built. Judging by this (http://prntscr.com/b3r2c3), I wonder where they'll put it? North of Arterial Road doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Thing is, the thought of a Thomas Land or Peppa Pig world in a shopping centre just doesn't..... work well with my brain!

Nickelodeon is diverse enough to reach out to a bigger audience
