I wouldn't class Nemesis as a short ride. It may not be huge but it feels worthwhile. Oblivion and Th13teen are undoubtly the shortest coasters on the park, Rita following in 3rd.

I've really no idea what's up with the trend of short coasters at Towers. It's not a UK thing. There's really only The Smiler which has a good length.

Looking at the RCDB, here's a list I've compiled of AT's coaster duration times, from the shortest (top) to the longest (bottom):

Rita 0:25
=Oblivion 1:15
=Spinball Whizzer 1:15
Nemesis 1:20
Galactica 1:40
RMT 1:50 (two laps)
Smiler 2:45

Please note: duration times for Thirteen and Octonaughts are not specified on the RCDB, hence them not being included in the above list.

I've recently been looking at ride lengths, which are where the ride has got coaster sections so no lift hills or brake runs. SW8 has a very similar ride length to 13 (including the backwards section), lasts longer than an SLC and Icon is just 20 seconds longer. This whole hate towards SW8 because it is a medium length coaster is rather unnecessary and to me, is a flawed argument.

I'm with Pete B on Nemmie. Never regarded as it as short.

It delivers so much in the time it does run, with no drop in intensity, apart from the much needed stall turn, that I never feel cheated.

There are so many coasters out their which deliver a great first drop, after which everything else is an anticlimax. The term all mouth and no trousers can be applied to many coasters (PMBO) but not Nemmie. I don't think many members of the GP could take a full 3 minutes of the sheer intensity that Nemmie delivers.

Size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it! ;)

I have to say, after seeing the theming, music and general atmosphere of the welcoming, I think that this ride could end up having a really interesting and unique theme and I look forward to seeing the finished article.

Something that does bother me though, is why can Alton Towers never seem to stick to its own themes?
Every single major ride we have had, potentially with the exception of the Smiler, has either come with its own entirely new themed area surrounding it (Nemesis, Oblivion, Thirteen) or has been plonked into an existing themed area with a completely unrelated style (Air/Galactica, Rita, Spinball and now SW8). I find it frustrating that they cannot seem to stick with a theme or idea beyond the first year of its implementation.

. .

Have I missed something when was it confirmed this is the welcoming

Nemesis is about 140ft shorter than Thirteen so there goes that argument! It's not always about how long a coaster is, as Nemesis proves. It's about what the coaster does within that length of track. GCI don't tend to make bad coaster, I am sure that this has been engineered to be a lot of fun.

I also believe that the theme/story element is going to play a big role in this coaster. And it can never be denied that the whoe thing does not look impressive when you see it in person.

:)

I also think that the ground hugging nature of the track gives an illusion from photos that the ride is smaller than it is, i'm pretty certain that most of the dislike for this ride will disappear when it's been ridden. The layout is really original too and will be fun. Agree totally with Rob. Let's wait till it's open before slating it too much, it's the ride that the park needs in its line up at the moment, we might get an RMC in a few years.

Yes, it reminded me of the Smiler first time I saw it, built basically on the side of a hill, the Smiler is deceptively fast in some places because of that.

The scaffolding is coming down around the 'rockwork'. Photos, alongside more of the construction site, courtesy of Aidan Lowe on TowersTimes.
