Talbot Street Tuesday/Thursday (Picture Heavy)

Last week we took a look at Energizer, which opened in 1995 as the park's signature thrill ride in Festival Park. After a stint in X Sector it would eventually be tamed to become Bone Shaker, a family attraction in Ug Land. Did you get chance to experience either version of the ride?

Energizer was tamed as Bone Shaker by the time I rode it but it was pretty unique ride in a British park, lots of fun!
Nice location in the trees too with the old Ug Land theme

It’s was great as Energizer. Sorely missed like submission and ripsaw. Such a shame. Why did it close? I would imagine there was a lot of stress on the ride. What was the ride before it? Arabian nights?? I remember riding it it was (or felt like) a huge magic carpet but can’t remember it’s name

1001 Nights :)

We rode Energizer LOTS when it first opened whilst on school trips. If you could get the operator to run it manually it had a wicked snap on it when it hit whatever buffer was fitted to stop it swinging too high and inverting.

The short reason is money.

The long reason is that it was severely impacted from an incident in 2000 (while it was in X-Sector) which affected the ride's gearbox. As Boneshaker it only ran on a few 'tame' programmes which put comparatively little strain on it. By 2003 it was only running a very short cycle and I think it might have been subject to some other reductions in operation - I can't remember if it was still operating at the end of the season at all.

The fix was expensive, and the park was subject to a severely reduced budget in 2004 (also closing half of Cred Street, Dynamo and maybe some others I've forgotten).

A real shame, from what I remember as Boneshaker it was a lot of fun (as a kids flat) and pretty different. So Im sure it would have been fantastic originally as a thrill ride. I really don't miss Submission but feel like Energizer could still be a great flat at the park today.

In that case, it was a really good idea to move it to a family area once it had to be tamed, to get some more years out of it. With a very cool new look too

Not trying to be cynical, but I can't imagine a flat (especially an old one) getting a scenic job like that now. If a ride had a problem like that today, it would just sit there SBNO. Although it could still be here today on top form if the big repair had been done.

When Energizer first opened it used to be really wild and it used to swing quite violently, but towards the last few years of its life it was a much tamer affair.

I remember at the time being told that an enthusiastic operator had managed to invert it which knackered the gearbox. Looking back now it seems unlikely that it actually inverted, but I can imagine that being operated in the manner described by @IDB would put a lot of stress on the components and cause them to fail prematurely.

Yeah, Energizer was hilarious in its early days. It was just funny how much it flung you about. I can still vaguely remember me and my mates/family looking at each other whilst riding it thinking in surprise "Is it really supposed to be chucking us around like this?".

And then yes, it seemed to go very tame one year and was never the same again.

A few weeks back we took a look at Aqualand - your one stop spot for the water rides of Alton Towers in the 1980s.

As well as being the home to iconic water rides such as the Grand Canyon Rapids and Log Flume, Aqualand was also home to many other water themed attractions, like the Octopus and Tea Cups, as well as a hub of dining and shopping in the Courtyard.
