Staff Accomodation

Alton Towers have confirmed that they no longer have The Mills..

Hi, it is Castle Estates we still work with. We don't have the Mills available any longer i'm afraid. Their number is 01785 244404. Thanks.

I wonder if there's an alternative accommodation being set up for people applying for the 2013 season? It seemed that The Mills fitted the employees price tag quite nicely with everything included pretty much within a set price.

Any alternatives you reckon?

There isn't any alternatives, but Castle Estates are deciding at the end of the month what is going to happen with the building.

Causing a lot of issues for people!

Staff Accomodation

Technically alton have no obligation to provide accommodation.
But since they have done for a while, I don't see why they should stop, may stop quite a few people keeping a job at Towers

Apparently if your looking for accommodation, HR have a list of places or something. So I've heard! :)

This will cause a lot of issues for many people working at towers especially this close to opening day

They've known about it for a couple of months anyway to allow people to find alternative accomodation. Helps if they update their website though.

Interesting whats happening to the mills, surely cannot just close them as that'll cause issues with dereliction in the nearby area again. Would be good if castle estates just took over entirely etc.

Surely it would make more sense for Castle Estates to take over and keep it going I mean Towers employe people every season and thus meaning people need somewhere to live so its a win win scenario really for Castle Estates. I can understand during closed season that a large amount of people may move out to go back home or what not, but still I bet there is a small percentage who would still live there even if its closed season.

I really hope they think wisely about there choice on this.

Staff Accomodation

Odd, I heard a while ago that Castle Estates had gone bust. There was always plenty of places around Leek offering short term leases due to the amount of seasonal staff in the area though so a bit of research should get you in somewhere easily enough.

It's a real shame staff accommodation is no longer being offered, hopefully Castle Estates will make the decision to completely take over the mills.

I'de imagine this will now see a stop to many people from moving to work at the resort now, and often these people are the some of the most enthusiastic and passionate for the business.

They are still advertising on the job applications too that they still have them available. It has been mentioned on they're career Facebook page though but they just re-direct you to the Castle Estates website/telephone number. Does this mean that Castle Estates technically are still in business as Alton are advising applications to contact them directly?

I heard it was AMOS (the guys who own the buildings, not the guys who run it) who were in trouble and either went into administration or are downsizing.

Either or really. Fact is they've closed them!

That's really sad. I lived in Well St. Mill for nearly six months in 2009 and it was great to bridge the gap between where I'd been living in Oxford, and finding something a little more permanent and homely with people I ended up spending time with.

A lot of the temporary Scarefest entertainment staff live there for a couple of months before/during Scarefest, so I wonder what they'll be doing now!

IIRC, HR have a list of places including rooms in people's houses that they're willing to let short-term, so I'm sure there's still options. Failing that, like whenever you move to a new area, there are houseshare websites about.

I think big issue will come when scarefest kicks in and Actors will be stuck for somewhere to live! it is shame.. but if Towers didn't own them... not alot they could of done!

I know already a few people are having great difficulty finding accommodation. I've had a mooch online and can't really find that many places that correspond with the bus time table to get there on time!

If I end up getting this flat in Uttox (not sure yet), then there is a room free. Of course I won't let anyone move in, but itd there if anyone needs it..... when/if I get it :p

Ahh but Dan, if you didn't have the connections you do with the ability to buy the house how you have, you would also be stuck.
Nowhere (Pretty much, unless they're desperate) will let you rent on a seasonal job, especially if you have no guarantors!
The best you could get would be a short term contract. Which just screw you over after that has ended!

Surrounding areas of towers are very accomodating with seasonal staff, as the main employer is a seasonal business. Most of the landlords are more than happy to have seasonal staff in there. Guarantors is probably a must though.
