Ride Availability/Operations 2022-25

IIRC there was apparently an incident where somehow a train went out without anyone actually checking the restraints on at least one row.
Still seems a bit odd to me though. It would suggest a host signalled the shuttle was ready for dispatch when they hadn't checked a single seat, which I find hard to imagine anybody doing.

Also seems odd how they didn't extend this to other rides, as surely the same risk exists across the full portfolio.

No action with Spinball Whizzer today, asked the operator outside this morning, he said there’s potential for it to open tomorrow.

Fingers crossed!

Oblivion's operations today on a quiet end of September (queue calendar at 13%) was absolutely dire. 4 shuttles and 1 station but it was taking a good 2-3 minutes between each dispatch of a shuttle. A lot of times they were standing around waiting for something before even checking the restraints, but this was a good 30 seconds after everyone has got into their seats!

It meant the queue reached up to 35-40 minutes.
One of the ride hosts will be assigning rows to people as the train is getting loaded, once that is done, both ride hosts then check restraints. That is the main reason for awful dispatches these days

At the park yesterday. Persistent rain for most of the day & high gust winds of 43mph or so predicted from the storm but I have to say I was amazed at how much everything was open. There were points where I was thinking "how on earth is Oblivion & The Smiler still open".

Everything was open bar Spinball. The weather being so bad that a lot of people had gone by 5pm. The park was dead for the night rides.
It was only by 8:45pm that the rain got its heaviest. It did mean I got to experience a Wickerman evac as the last ride of the day.

Have to hand it to Alton Towers, they powered through in tough conditions.

The only downside is sitting on Oblivion's break run for 6 minutes in the rain getting soaked is not recommended 🤣

Paultons somehow have ALL rides open (except teacups lol). Very impressive.

Thorpe have very little.

Chessington and AT have more open than closed which isn’t bad going.

Worth noting at Europa Park currently all coasters are closed except Can Can, Ba Ba Express and Swiss Bob Run.

Even the best park in the world can be affected by poor weather. 😂. Fairly windy here but should die down soon hopefully. They don’t do a wet weather guarantee either. Basically suck it up. 😅

On the plus side at least there’s plenty of other stuff to do so having done all the indoor attractions, beer garden it happens to be, with some live music.

Great day yesterday apart from weather , however was slightly annoying how later on I think it was Thirteen, nemesis and oblivion was only using certain trains and sending the others empty , don't understand why and toxicator was difficult to get on as they said it needs 20 people to run

Is Arthur not open?

It's not particularly windy down south today. Or at least it wasnt in the New Forest when i left this morning. I've traveled up to Derby today and the difference is stark :tearsofjoy:

Nope. Also closed. Weather Delay apparently 🤔.

Everything bar Silver Star now reopened. Though Silver Star has yet to open today.

Has been a couple of hours with a lot closed though.

At least there’s plenty of other things to do unlike at Towers where if everything closes due to weather you just seem to endlessly walk around finding something to do and hope Hex hasn’t got a 60 minute queue 🤣.

You have got 4 rides unaffected by weather and Marauders shouldn't either

I'd like to echo that I was there yesterday and they did excellently to keep everything open. I'll also echo that I can't believe Oblivion and The Smiler stayed open, operations were great again across the board.

I know Thirteen has to have a minimum of 16 people to ride it. My guess would be they would send empty trains round just because there wasn't enough people in the queues. So it's easier to just send empty trains round to allow enough people to queue up. It will save time of having to go through the whole sequence of checking restraints, batching and unloading etc.

I imagine it's easier to do that rather than to close the ride and take off trains. My guess is that Alton Towers Ops would have got enough trains loaded and circulating ready to anticipate a busier day than it was.

I went round on a half filled Nemesis train at 7pm in the evening. Insane never known anything like it.

Makes sense and yea I know it was unbelievable how quiet it was , wickerman was flying in the evening , guess a lot left because of the rain but imo its the uk get on with it 🤣

I Noticed that on Oblivion but one of the trains had something on it that said not in use so I imagine they had an issue with it.

I was on park yesterday and it was refreshing to see a lack of RAP and fasttrack usages. The main queline was constantly moving on every ride. I wonder if this will be different next weekend with peak school holidays.

Whilst I appreciate that if you're in the main queue, it can feel frustrating to see people get to "skip" ahead of you, a lot of people are actually struggling to visit the park with the recent limits to the RAP system. Comments like yours could be interpreted as being a little bit insensitive, or even ableist. I'm sure that this was not your intention.

It is interesting to note that RAP usage didn't appear to be that high yesterday, but it was still fully booked out according to Alton Towers. This will no doubt upset and annoy those who have been trying to get RAP slots, as they could have taken the places of those who did not attend.

I too visited yesterday and noticed a distinct lack of Fastrack usage. The park was generally quiet though. I would imagine that the predicted bad weather would have put some people off from visiting. It's also possible that those who would normally have booked Fastrack for their day used their secondary spend on Scare Maze tickets instead, or decided that with the longer operational hours they were happy to wait a little longer in some queues.
