Rank the theme park on-site accommodation you’ve stayed in

One core part of many theme parks is on-site accommodation, and I’m sure many of us have stayed in quite a few theme park hotels in our time visiting theme parks. With this in mind, I’d be interested to know; how would you rank the theme park on-site accommodation you’ve stayed in?

I’ve stayed in a few theme park hotels in my time. If I were to think them through, I’d probably rank them as follows:
  1. Hotel Gold River - PortAventura: Putting this above Europa Park might be controversial, but Gold River is an absolutely stunning hotel! The theming is a sight to behold, the room was lovely (although we admittedly paid extra for a slightly nicer room), the complex is really expansive and has loads to do, and it’s also excellent value for money as well, with a buffet that was cheap but excellent and very cheap drinks! In the Spanish climate, we also really liked the availability of outdoor seating; it was lovely to sit outside and have a drink in the evenings!
  2. Hotel Castillo Alcazar - Europa Park: Europa Park is known for its gorgeous hotels, and this was indeed a very nice one! The standard of theming throughout was gorgeous, the food was nice, the room was nice, and it was overall a very nice hotel! It doesn’t quite take the top spot from Gold River, though, as I don’t seem to remember the complex being quite as lavish and expansive, and it’s also a lot more expensive. Had we stayed in Colosseo, though, I think it’s possible that that might have pipped Gold River to the post; that piazza was gorgeous, and the buffet in Colosseo was something to behold!
  3. Big Blue Hotel - Blackpool Pleasure Beach: This could have been enhanced by the fact that we stayed in a room with a park view, but this hotel was awesome! I remember it being nice, with a spacious room for adults, I remember the food being nice; there’s not a lot to complain about here, really!
  4. Newport Bay - Disneyland Paris: I stayed here too long ago to really fairly rate it, having stayed as an 8 year old in 2011, but I wouldn’t have said I remembered it being as special as some of the ones above. It was still perfectly nice, though!
  5. Enchanted Village - Alton Towers: Of the Alton Towers accommodation options, I do think the Enchanted Village is probably my favourite. It’s a nice, spacious site, it’s quite quiet compared to the often action-packed nature of the main hotels, and the rooms also feel a bit more spacious (although I haven’t stayed since 2017, admittedly).
  6. Alton Towers Hotel - Alton Towers: This is probably the one I’ve stayed in the most over the years, and it does have a certain special magic for me even after all this time. However, I do definitely think those standard rooms have seen better days; the decor is increasingly dated, no aircon is unusual in 2026, and the bunk beds are also difficult to get into and out of for adult visitors (I’m not even particularly tall at 5’10”, and I found them a tight squeeze last time). The bar area is also quite cramped, meaning that there isn’t really a quiet place to sit and have a drink or similar without getting drowned out by the entertainment on the ship.
  7. Splash Landings Hotel - Alton Towers: I haven’t stayed here in probably over 15 years, but I always remember it being thought of by us as the “less than” of the two Alton Towers hotels. That might be an unfair assessment in 2026, though.

1. Hotel Matamba (Phantasialand)-2023- was upgraded to a park view room (which hadn’t booked) and a balcony with full view of the loop on Black Mamba.
2. Hotel Bellrock (Europa Park)-2023
3. Liseberg Grand Curiosa - 2024
4. Port Orleans French Qtr (WDW)2018 & 2025
5. Disney Coronado Springs (WDW) 2022
6. Kronasar (Europa Park) 2018
7. Universal Aventura (Universal Orlando) 2018, 2024 &2025
8. Disney Pop Centry (WDW) 2024
9. Cabana Bay (universal Orlando) 2022
10. Loomsche (Efteling)2023
11. Hotel Port Aventura 2013& 2014
12. Hotel Caribe (Port Aventura) 2012 & 2017

i Would love to stop at Animal Kingdom lodge at WDW but price puts me off as don’t actual spend that much time in the resort, next time I go to Orlando either 2027 or 28. Will prob go back to Pop, while I do prefer the moderate level resorts in reality was not in the resort that much and mainly eat either at the parks or Disney Springs and not in the resort. The Skyliner Access at the resort makes things so much easier. Plus price wise like to do 3 weeks in Orlando split between universal and WDW and could stay at a high level resorts but go for shorter time period, but in the end I would rather go for longer!

edit- misses grand curiosa at Liseberg also in Orlando my earlier trips where always offsite, prefer onsite now. Elsewhere happy to stay offsite, California this summer is all offsite. Next time I go to Europa park likely will stay offsite at the Moxy hotel based on price. Liseberg and phantasia land would probably choose to stay onsite again

Trying to remember what I've stayed in now

Charles Lindbergh Hotel - Phantasialand

I'd place this first as its so spectacular as it brings you into the world of Rookburgh, hell when I last visited the park we arrived about 8am to check in and never left the confines of the park until after park close the next day. Rooms are a bit tight, and single beds, but you know that going in and you're paying for the experience, access to the area after park close which is just an amazing atmosphere (if only you got an ert as well). Plus you get a lovely evening meal, and breakfast the next morning.

Big Blue Hotel - Blackpool Pleasure Beach

More a lovely hotel that happens to be next to an amusement park, great staff, fantastic breakfast, lunch and dinner menus also really good. So good I've never once considered giving the boulevard hotel a try. Biggest annoyance is the lack of a permanent hotel guests entrance/exit.

Hotel Breakers - Cedar Point

Its an upscale American hotel, but its next to Cedar Point. Plus you get to stay on the peninsula all the outdoor hotel pools to go in after park close, good collection of restaurants if you've not filled up via an all day Dining pass. Great during long park days you can walk out via the Magnum gate to go for a lie down or just take stuff back to the hotel.

Hotel Matamba - Phantasialand

Lovely themed hotel and you can pay extra for views of Black Mamba, which I did. Really nice buffet breakfast as well. Enjoyed the bar in the evening.

Alton Towers Hotel - Alton Towers

Feels tired and not what it once was, a poor breakfast. Evening meals usually good if expensive. Biggest benefit is the location.

Hotel Express - Cedar Point

Same quality as Breakers without the benefit of being properly on site. Lack of on site food options, though there's a nearby McDonald's.

1. Alton Towers Hotel: Hear me out! This hotel was magical as a child. We stayed here as a family every year from 1998-2003ish. Towers was a world class theme park and the hotel was held to much higher standards than it is today. The music in the lifts, the stepping stones, woodland walk, Secret Garden breakfast, evening entertainment (drag shows, tribute singers etc). I have nothing but fond memories of staying there but haven't done so in at least ten years.

2. Ling Bao - Phantasialand: Great rooms and a solid restaurant. Customer service is a bit... Non existent. But I'm ranking this based on the fact that hotel guests would get an hour's ERT on Taron included. Could rack up 10-15 rides easily and it was my number 1 coaster back then.

3. Santa Isabel - Europa Park: Have visited Europa several times but only stayed on site once. I would rank this higher but I don't find the hotels to be great value considering you can access the bars and restaurant anyway when staying off site. The spa here was incredible as long as you don't mind being bollock naked for a bit.. when in Rome and all that. Loved the pool with a view of Wodan and Blue Fire in the background.

4. Hotel El Paso - Port Aventura: Again good memories staying here as a kid. Typical Spanish holiday family hotel with a nice pool and decent buffet restaurants. Have stayed on site in recent years and it's been good but the actual park has gone downhill slightly.

5. Hotel Caribe - Port Aventura: As above really, just slightly further from the park entrance.

6. Knott's Berry Farm Hotel - Stayed here as a base for both Knotts and Disneyland. Felt very 70's/80's and needs a refresh.

I very rarely use on site accomodation unless there's a good deal on. Been able to visit some amazing parks by saving money staying off site.

1. Atlantis Hotel
Extremely Grand featuring plenty of space, access to shops below, a food bar and atlantis Water Park.

2. Gold River Hotel
Excellently well themed, good location and marvelously intergrated into the far west section

3. Drayton Manor Hotel
This is a nice accomidation with plenty of space and a good view.

4. Alton Towers Hotel
Grand Hotel just has this grand aura around it. Haven't stayed in a while due to price.

5. Chessington Aztec Hotel. Nice, Spacious has a bunk bed and nice view of animals. Haven't stayed here since 2016

6. Splash Landings Hotel, good solid theming, like the water fountains. Flambo Jambos was good and links nicely with Water Park.

7. Thorpe Shark Hotel, cramped for family of 4, beds slightly uncomfortable and its a shipping container

Good idea for a thread @Matt N

1. Efteling Bosrijk - I love it here, it’s so tranquil and beautiful yet only 10 min walk to the theme park. There are also shops, a swimming pool, theming and playgrounds.

The actual woodland houses are very pretty too, especially the ones that back onto the lake with their own private veranda. Heading back for our third consecutive trip this year.

2. Phantasialand Ling Bao - The caveat here is we stayed in a suite which offered numerous benefits including unlimited fast track, personal concierge and private dining. So it was expensive but of the high standard you’d then expect. Had a great balcony looking out over Mystery Tower.

Being basically inside the theme park was great meaning we could easily retire to our room during the day and that’s a benefit for all guests as it’s literally a couple of minutes walk from the park entrance. Was a bit noisy compared to the village options.

3. Plopsaland Village - Somewhat similar to Efteling, I’d argue the houses are even nicer here and it’s closer to the park too though it doesn’t quite have the woodland magic. Having a great supermarket nearby is excellent too, that’s the only drawback with Efteling as the shop is fairly limited there.

They’re all great though, would definitely recommend all 3!

We are quite restricted in what we can do with accommodation so they are likely the only parks we will ever stay in unless others open self catering options.

Charles Lindbergh
Aside from the odd dining setup (ouch my destroyed back) this is what park hotels should aim for. Extra access, well themed, comfy, the view.

Ling Bao
Really nice hotel, don't remember a huge amount apart from liking it as I was slightly inebriated

El Andaluz
Got a room with a view of being able to watch the EP Express shunt in the morning, worth it. Nice enough, just slightly had to justify with the pricing

Castillo Alcazar
Same as above, sans train geekery

Enchanted Village
Perfectly functional if oddly laid out, bit of a trek in the morning and Crooked Spoon was acceptable

Splash
Nice enough if tired and very questionable food and ents

ATH
Very very tired and the bunks felt like they'd collapse

Just got home from 4 nights at Newport Bay, DLP.

It’s really nice, but could do with a lick of paint and a few touch ups here and there.

The location at the end of the lake is lovely. Me and the other half enjoyed a couple early afternoon beers there when the parks were at the busiest, and the kids were tired enough to colour in the shade.

The breakfasts were decent. I know a lot of people dislike streaky bacon, but I love it.

Pool was nice, the jets and geyser were a nice surprise. Annoyingly, we were 2 weeks early for the outdoor pool to open.

Would stay again. Certainly ahead of the Marvel hotel which looks like student halls for a former polytechnic.

Only other theme park accommodation experience is Port Orleans Riverside when it was Dixie Landings. Adored the place as a 10yo, and cried like a 1yo when we came home.
