Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015
Given the impact the trains had, it may well be that it will be more cost-effective to purchase two replacements, rather than have the structure X-rayed and tested for any slight faults. In which case they could have a full set of trains before the HSE had finished examining the ones involved.- Alexsutton

The Smiler: What does the future hold?
I was under the impression the stall was caused by gusty winds on that day combined with the light empty vehicle, not really much you can do about wind.- Alexsutton

2017/18: SW8 Speculation
Sub-Terra is a dark ride but doesn't really count, I imagine is what Matt Creek meant. This will potentially be Merlin's first big(ish)-budget dark ride.- Alexsutton

I'd have thought they want to wait until the investigation has progressed and they can be absolutely certain that the issue is not also present on Saw. Without knowing the exact cause of this crash, they can't yet know for certain.- Alexsutton

Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015
There was a theory that the procedure was to reverse the train down the lift to make for an easier evac on level track at ground level, a situation specific to The Smiler as I can't think of any other ride that can be reversed back down the lift.- Alexsutton

Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015
I don't think anyone goes on rides genuinely thinking they will crash, but their purpose is to get your adrenaline going, I'm trying to find the right phrase but one thing they aren't supposed to feel is absolutely safe and secure. Lots of enthusiasts wanted The Smiler to have lapbars rather...- Alexsutton

Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015
If you start designing coaster vehicles with the aim to make them crash-proof you're going to have a lot of work, and weight, to deal with. Every restraint will have to be redesigned to reduce the impact, currently every restraint I can think of other than a seat belt is completely rigid and...- Alexsutton

Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015
A lot of people seem to be discussing the front railing on the vehicles and that things might have been different if it wasn't there, like a floorless train. I agree that things would have been different but I think they would have been worse, not better. The rail didn't magically move into...- Alexsutton

I wonder if Towers' lawyers will be able to make a condition of any compensation that the actual sum isn't disclosed to the press. I'd have thought that would be their best bet to stop the press making a story out of that although I don't know if that is actually something that can legally be done.- Alexsutton

Maybe it's too complicated to get software that detects stalled cars on CCTV feeds. Maybe they should invest in some kind of system that constantly monitors the vehicles on the track and stops the ride if it's not happy that a block is clear. Oh, wait.- Alexsutton

Coaster Trains
Coaster cars only have one axle, like a caravan. If you had a caravan on its own the front or the back end would drag on the ground because it's not stable. It needs to be attached to a car to be stable. The zero car has two axles and is fixed on one axis, so it can't pitch like the other...- Alexsutton

Considering they've pulled the promotion I imagine Nov 4th will be even quieter now there won't be as many people who will have completed the challenge.- Alexsutton

2015: General Discussion
Does anyone know quite what's happening with Sub Terra this season? I know Towers have said it's closed for 'Design changes' but does anyone know any more? I imagine they'd be making some alterations to the end section perhaps, so it makes a bit more sense to run it with no actors.- Alexsutton

Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015
Although the stall itself wasn't the critical fault here, others have raised the interesting point that if The Smiler stalls again in operation it does seem pretty likely to cause panic and bad press after this incident, even if the system and staff react to the stall appropriately. I wonder if...- Alexsutton

Cigarettes sold in Towers Trading
An important point to remember here! It's easy to look back and laugh at tobacco adverts from decades ago that boast about the health benefits of smoking, and then for us to turn around and blindly believe the health claims about a different gas people are encouraged to inhale!- Alexsutton

New Shrek and friends Merlin Attraction for County Hall London
The Ts&Cs that I've read basically list all the attractions currently available on the pass and refer to that list as 'the Attractions' and then go on to say that the pass entitles you to entry to 'the Attractions', rather than just anything owned by Merlin.- Alexsutton

Fireworks 2014
I agree for the most part, however at the start of ITHOTMK it sounded horrifically distorted where I was stood. Am I the only person who thought the 'dreams' character looked like a green bar of soap with some shaving foam on?- Alexsutton

Very exciting prospect, clearly they're aiming for something along the same level as Universal/Disney parks at least in terms of theming. Will be very curious to see what happens with this!- Alexsutton

Quick Questions
Cheers for the response, just had a reply on Twitter. For anyone else interested, normal Towers2 tickets are valid until the 6th Nov but they apparently have a separate Fireworks Towers2 for £19.50.- Alexsutton

Quick Questions
Howdy all, does anybody know if the Bounceback/Towers2/whatever-they're-called-this-season tickets you can get from the Box Office on the day are valid for the fireworks at the end of the season? I'm struggling to find out a straight answer!- Alexsutton
