Monorail Refurbishment
Alton Towers probably want to work on the Monorail, but they can't because Merlin won’t cough up. I'm wondering how the Skyride investment worked, and if the same approach could happen with the Monorail.- James

The Alton Towers Music, Video and Other Multimedia Thread
I remember joining the community around 2006 and collecting audio files from all the fan sites. TowersTimes, Alton Towers Almanac, and Towers Nerd all had great collections. It was great fun having a bit of a 'black market' for audio files, too. People did get very territorial with it. The big...- James

Ride Access Pass and Disabled Access - 2024 Discussion
What Rob said. The point is that these comorbidities are inherently linked to diabetes. I'm not sure how this debate started. I would assume that if diabetes is listed as a qualifier for RAP, it's because these comorbidities could potentially cause barriers with queuing for long periods. It's...- James

Ride Access Pass and Disabled Access - 2024 Discussion
Diabetes (type 1 and 2) can lead to multiple complications, such as sight problems, nerve damage, heart disease and foot problems. All of these could certainly hinder your ability to queue for long periods. Like any illness, it will depend on that individual's symptoms and how well (or unwell)...- James

Hex [2024 Refurb]: General Discussion
It's only the laser lights at the end which are a bit jarring for me. The rest is fine. It's brighter but doesn't ruin the experience. I think they did a good job, and if it means Hex lives for another decade, I'm happy with that.- James

The Alton Towers Music, Video and Other Multimedia Thread
I remember it being common for patient enough individuals to sit in front of speakers and record a whole soundtrack. Something I haven't seen anyone do in a long time. We've been blessed with IMA Score soundtrack releases over the last few years (even if they are not the full versions). Many...- James

Skyride General Discussion
I've been stuck in a gondola above the valley for 30 minutes, swaying in heavy winds. It's not fun and a bit terrifying, but Skyride is probably one of the safest systems around. I wouldn't fancy an afternoon of abseiling, though. I'm sure Towers staff wouldn't want that either.- James

Ride Access Pass and Disabled Access - 2024 Discussion
It's not 'free Fastrack' though. That RAP user still has to 'virtually' queue. Sure, they can grab some food, have a wander around, but they should still not be getting any quicker on the ride compared to someone in the main queue. I get that it is sometimes abused and staff let RAP users on...- James

[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved
Plus, if Project Horizon does happen, it would open at least 2 years after the Minecraft ride at Chessington. I don't see how the public will be able to make comparisons. It's like saying, why did Merlin build Nemesis and Hyperia in the same year? They are both coasters.- James

Controversial Alton Towers Opinions
Back in 1998, Oblivion worked beautifully. Clean concrete, futuristic feel (how we perceived 'the future' at the time), the drum and bass soundtrack. I can see why people wouldn't like it as much now. If you're younger, you probably won't appreciate it much, as times and tastes have changed. It...- James

Monorail Refurbishment
The fact that they keep the monorail on life support shows that Towers sees its value. Given how they operate it, they are desperate to keep it going until its dying breath. They obviously see that making it SBNO will cause more trouble than it's worth. Hopefully, the Skyride investment gives...- James

Controversial Alton Towers Opinions
I think in light of the post-Smiler crash, this resulted in a stripped-back woodie compared to the large-scale one that was planned for Forbidden Valley. The Flume site offered a convenient plot of land that a smaller woodie could sit on. In an alternative reality, maybe Forbidden Valley got...- James

2025: Toxicator - General Discussion
I wonder whether the fountains were an afterthought and not a part of the original design. Given the lack of watertight storage and the flow of water over a part of the queue, it appears to be an afterthought or poor planning, which wouldn't be the first for a Merlin ride.- James

Future Flat Ride Speculation
It would be great to see a flume or water ride in the park that's ‘adjustable’ to operate all seasons. I wouldn't be against the rapids being removed in favour of a water ride utilising the same space (given the number of staff required to operate it now, as well as all the H&S measures).- James

Obscure UK Parks
Danter has kept interest in Barry, but as above, it really is a shadow of its former self. The whole place feels very cheaply done, and it's literally flats dumped on top of the tarmac, a far cry from the themed rides made in the 90s. As someone who lives in Wales, 20 minutes away from Cardiff...- James

Ride Availability/Operations 2022-25
As I've said before, even vouchers would be fine as compensation. This also benefits Towers. Guests are appeased with a voucher giving them money off food/drink/merch, Alton Towers gets extra money from these guests' extra spending.- James
