The Smiler - General Discussion
I know that the Smiler holds the record for the number of inversions at 14, but which coaster holds the record for number of inversions in a single block-section?- micksalt

Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015
There's a lot of rumour going around about human error, and I appreciate that it is the most likely cause, and I've no reason to doubt you, but I've not seen any concrete evidence to support this yet. Besides, my point was, as Hitch said, the empty train could have just as easily have been on...- micksalt

This is why I believe the stall cannot be the root cause; eventually you rely on the systems doing their job properly. If a train were to be stopped at the start of the brake run, it's effectively not cleared the section. The brakes have to have the right logic to let that car roll to the front...- micksalt

Just in case folk missed it, spinba11's post was updated to indicate that someone over at TowerTimes was having a joke, staff haven't been observed on the ride as far as I know.- micksalt

That was my thought too, prohibition notices would cover all humans, be it staff, punters or even Nick Varney himself.- micksalt

Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015
It would be interesting to see photos of the damage to the back seats of the stalled train. It may be that the back row is equally undesirable.- micksalt

Which ride will be removed next? (Poll reset 20.06.2017)
If they decide to keep the Flume, and choose to renovate, I'd much rather they return the theming back to the old 'Log Flume'. Can't stand the current theme.- micksalt

Which gives the Mirror the opportunity to release a headline in 2017 along the lines of "Alton Towers hid the truth about Horrific Smiler Crash" unless they are completely open and honest about it now. Don't get me wrong, they cannot release details of the investigation until the findings are...- micksalt

The HSE is a public organisation though, I would have thought they would be obliged to disclose their findings under an information request.- micksalt

Incident on The Smiler 02/06/2015
In this day and age of 'Freedom of Information', surely Merlin's best bet is to issue a statement on what went wrong, and what action has been taken to minimise future risk. The only reason I can think to not do this is if it would jeopardise the prosecution case against them. Other than that...- micksalt

Perhaps 'go' is a bit strong, but I'd certainly like to see it removed from Dark Forest to somewhere more appropriately themed.- micksalt

Nemesis Sub-Terra: "Ongoing Maintenance"
I quite enjoy Sub-Terra because the staff are part of the theming, not just ride operators. We go on about Alton losing 'the Magic', but I felt a tingle of it on Sub-Terra. Who'd have thought it, a theme park indulging in a little theme.- micksalt

Looks like the gutter press (the Mirror, third one down) are at it again. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-34397690 Interestingly, Cathriona White (Jim Carrey's girlfriend) has died at both 28 years old and 30 years old, depending which paper you read. That sums up the factual...- micksalt

I just hope that Nick Varney has taken the time to explain to the victims what has been changed to reduce the probability of the same event happening again.- micksalt
