2025: General Discussion
I agree. You get what you pay for, and it depends on what Merlin is paying/expecting RWS to provide. I guess we shall find out later this year! For one, I'm looking forward to seeing if Scarefest gets more of a shake-up.- James

Monorail Refurbishment
I think at most you would have one stacked (at each station), but it was a very short delay if you were in said stacked train. It never felt like you were waiting for long in whatever part of the monorail you were in, whether in the queue, the station or a train. That's the key difference now...- James

Monorail Refurbishment
When all the trains were running (and you could actually stand on the station platform), you would be constantly moving with minimal pauses. Unlike now, where you wait an eternity. They desperately need air gates to quicken dispatches.- James

[🌎 Universal GB] General Discussion
I'm sure we'll see lots of entertainment, which will be wonderful. It will be a great time for performers wanting to enter the industry. I'm curious as to how late they would open the park, especially in the summer months. If you do a nightly fireworks/light/drone show, come the summer months...- James

[2026]Bluey Coaster in CBeebies Land
Overpriced food, poor operations, no entertainment and the removal and SBNO of rides. Every Brit's dream. 🥰- James

[2026]Bluey Coaster in CBeebies Land
Wasn't it meant to be a general maintenance area for the whole of CBeebies Land? Maybe with all the outsourcing and changes within Merlin in the last few months, they no longer need this area. I would guess the plans for this were long before Merlin decided to centralise and outsource.- James

Universal GB - Archived Post Announcement Discussion
I've mentioned LOTR to a few people, and they have reacted very positively to it as an IP. So there's certainly interest there. I would have my bets on Wicked/Wizard of Oz for a 'big reveal' IP.- James

Universal GB - Archived Post Announcement Discussion
Given the Warner Bros. rights, I don't think it’s any surprise that HP won’t be part of the initial park, although I wouldn't rule it out for future phases. I'm not particularly bothered about what IPs we get. It will be nice to see a park of such high quality in the UK. Regarding the UK...- James

Universal GB - Archived Pre Announcement Discussion
Daily Mirror front cover seems to suggest this will be a government-led announcement. I wonder if that's new concept art, if so, exciting times!- James

Oakwood Discussion
Oakwood was always your obligatory school theme park trip when I was younger. I think from 2010 onwards, it became more common for schools to arrange trips to the bigger parks with the extra hour+ journey. My year group in high school was the first year group ever to not go to Oakwood and...- James

Universal GB - Archived Pre Announcement Discussion
It feels like odd timing for an announcement, you would think Universal would wait until all the Epic Universe hype dies down.- James

Monorail Refurbishment
Alton Towers probably want to work on the Monorail, but they can't because Merlin won’t cough up. I'm wondering how the Skyride investment worked, and if the same approach could happen with the Monorail.- James

The Alton Towers Music, Video and Other Multimedia Thread
I remember joining the community around 2006 and collecting audio files from all the fan sites. TowersTimes, Alton Towers Almanac, and Towers Nerd all had great collections. It was great fun having a bit of a 'black market' for audio files, too. People did get very territorial with it. The big...- James

Ride Access Pass and Disabled Access - 2024 Discussion
What Rob said. The point is that these comorbidities are inherently linked to diabetes. I'm not sure how this debate started. I would assume that if diabetes is listed as a qualifier for RAP, it's because these comorbidities could potentially cause barriers with queuing for long periods. It's...- James

Ride Access Pass and Disabled Access - 2024 Discussion
Diabetes (type 1 and 2) can lead to multiple complications, such as sight problems, nerve damage, heart disease and foot problems. All of these could certainly hinder your ability to queue for long periods. Like any illness, it will depend on that individual's symptoms and how well (or unwell)...- James

Hex [2024 Refurb]: General Discussion
It's only the laser lights at the end which are a bit jarring for me. The rest is fine. It's brighter but doesn't ruin the experience. I think they did a good job, and if it means Hex lives for another decade, I'm happy with that.- James

The Alton Towers Music, Video and Other Multimedia Thread
I remember it being common for patient enough individuals to sit in front of speakers and record a whole soundtrack. Something I haven't seen anyone do in a long time. We've been blessed with IMA Score soundtrack releases over the last few years (even if they are not the full versions). Many...- James

Skyride General Discussion
I've been stuck in a gondola above the valley for 30 minutes, swaying in heavy winds. It's not fun and a bit terrifying, but Skyride is probably one of the safest systems around. I wouldn't fancy an afternoon of abseiling, though. I'm sure Towers staff wouldn't want that either.- James
