    Pleasurewood Hills

This is good, but the planning application does seem to be quite late, I don't even know if they'll get that approved before the scheduled opening.

    The Public Transport Thread

Yes GWR has started running this, and it's great for existing railways, and introducing new service on current lines (or extending/changing routes of current lines), however the cost to lay the tracks and get the signalling infrastructure for a mainline railway like this is very expensive, and...

    The Public Transport Thread

the idea of using a very light rail connection could be great, if they can make the economics work. If this technology works out well I can see if being a huge player in UK transport, and this is a potential great usage.

The Non Theme Park trip thread.

I originally went on a school trip and pretty much the only thing I remember was getting the sweets! They've added some new stuff recently, going into the 70s I think? I haven't been back for a few years. When I last went they'd just opened their new visitor centre at the entrance, which was...

    Watched anything good lately?

I've recently watched the second series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+, and I must say it's proving better than I expected. As someone who grew up watching the films and seeing the books everywhere I was sceptical, even though I knew the author didn't like the films, and they...

The Non Theme Park trip thread.

This sounds very similar to the Black Country Living Musuem in the West Midlands, similar concept but for the Black Country. Difference is they are always paid, but there is also always actors, and craftpeople. They have original shops, some operate (like the sweet shop and bakery) and some have...

[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved

These will have been planned before Merlins new management and focus, and use or take advantage of existing known brands.

What is your roast dinner meat of choice?

Lamb is my favourite, but as @Jonathan has pointed out it is quite expensive so I Beef is the one I tend to prefer usually. I have to say this is a great idea for a food related thread @Matt N , who doesn't like a roast dinner!

    Silver Dollar City: General Discussion

Seems like a sensible addition on a similar thrill level, although perhaps somewhat challenging to market, but I am sure they can come up with something that would be compelling enough.

[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved

I think, somewhat sadly, this is highly likely to be an external IP of some form. Merlin have made it clear they feel there way forward is with IP's, and even if that wasn't the case coming up with something very compelling with an indoor attraction could be very hard, and marketing that would...

    Silver Dollar City: General Discussion

If the park didn't already have an RMC I'd say a conversion was likely, but I doubt that's likely. It would be a nice plot of land for something new though.

    Brean Theme Park

I do think Mellors could have been interested, but I really doubt they're remotely interested now. There's no particularly company that jumps in mind to save the place, although obviously it is theoretically possible. I fear that this park might well be going, and probably left abandoned.

Your favourite or most memorable TowersStreet posts/threads of all time?

There's been some brilliant posts on here over the years, I have to admit I did find a certain posters 'unconventional' posts kind of funny, even if they did become irritating. This particular interaction made me chuckle at the time, did take me a while to dig out though...

    Dreamland Margate: General Discussion

Exactly! Half the charm of this place as a venue is its vintage features, they could use the scenic to make extra profit while also making it a really cool place to host a concert. Clearly that is not something they seem remotely interested in doing, and even seem to understand the potential of.

    Brighton Pier

If any UK pier was to get a new coaster it would be Brighton, with the right owners. I think it could probably quite easily turn a profit, but as @Poisson points out, piers are incredibly expensive to maintain, as well the sea is trying to delete it all the time. New owners, will either need...

    Dreamland Margate: General Discussion

This indeed does seem to the all the operaters wanted. A cheap music venue, within easy reach of a huge amount of the population, in a 'historically cool' venue. Easy and cheap to market, perfect for them. But it makes no long term sense, and it always amazes me at how much they've failed to...

    Dreamland Margate: General Discussion

It is frankly ridiculous they are closing it, after all the work that was done to save the park by lots of incredibly passionate people. The park should never have been sold to the operators, who've failed at every stage to make even remotely sensible decisions.

    [🌎 Universal GB] General Discussion

I do think looking at Epic Universe as Universals current design philosphy is sensible, and I think we could see them take a similar approach for this park. Maybe not the portal design itself but the similar approach of smaller, very heavily themed areas, with only a few rides. I'm still...

    Lightwater Valley

Yeah I agree, it's all about financial efficiency, I imagine Mellors have inherited somewhat of a mess and they need things to market with the lowest possible cost of operation. I think they're going to have a similar strategy here to what they've got at Fantasy Island which does work for them...

What year has Alton been at its best

I think this question depends a lot on whether your looking at it personally or from a objectively. If It's personal then it'll be either when your first visited or when you most enjoyed the visits on a regular basis (as opposed to you having a one off good visit because of company etc), while...
