2018: Park Operations & Ride Availability

It's possible that Rita might be out of action today. I was there yesterday and there was a sound of a massive pneumatic leak. Everyone safely evacuated from the ride and fasttracks issued to those already in the queue. Of course, I'm waiting for the Sun headline 'BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE AT DANGER...

2018: Wicker Man - General Discussion - SPOILERS! - Part One

Am I the only one that was not disappointed by Thirteen? Yes, it was no 'Psychoaster', but I like the layout through the woods, I think the theming in the crypt is excellent and the drop and the rapid reverse are thrilling. The Smiler disappointed, the quality of the finished product was poor...

Lack of enthusiasm/optimism for Alton Towers in recent years?

I am not sufficiently qualified to comment on the general trends. However, on a personal level, my enthusiasm had started to wane, until I saw all the construction photos of the Woodie. What a refreshing, exciting step in the right direction that looks.

2018: Wicker Man - General Discussion - SPOILERS! - Part One

I was always more excited about SW8 for the fact that it was a wooden coaster, but I was almost as excited about Icon. Now I've pretty much forgotten about Icon and am positively drooling over SW8, so the gap in excitement has widened considerably!

    Monorail Refurbishment

I would imagine the bulk of the operating costs are the drivers' wages. I do not think it is beyond the will of Merlin to upgrade the rolling stock to automated trains, with automated barriers on the stations, much like many modern airports have. As others have said, the track seems to be fine...

Which ride will be removed next? (Poll reset 20.06.2017)

I could happily accept one station for VR, one not. Actually, it would give useful data to Merlin to decide whether it is worth continuing with VR. Could have one of those counting turnstiles on each station to gather the data.

Which ride will be removed next? (Poll reset 20.06.2017)

I presume you mean Sub-Terra, not Submission, which was removed before the Smiler was built? I've said 'Galactica', I don't mean to remove its underpinning coaster, I mean just the removal or the VR and return it to being Air. The VR aspect must have increased staff requirements to achieve an...

How much would a Ripsaw replacement cost? would it be worth it?

Forget Ripsaw replacement, I'd happily take a replacement Energizer with one of the original cycles.

    2016: Air - Re-theme to VR Coaster - Galactica

Have they missed a trick here? Since Nemesis is an alien creature, couldn't the VR have been the space journey of Nemesis to Earth, and re-theme accordingly to tie into Forbidden Valley properly?

    2016: Air - Re-theme to VR Coaster - Galactica

If I were a conjunctivitis bacterium, this would be much cause for celebration.

    Most Missed Rides

Does the POV mode go to the extent of slamming the camera view from left to right to simulate your head getting thrown about? Just not the same without it.

    Possible New Park Entrance?

There's another good reason for keeping the entrance where it is, it creates a staggered exit of cars from the car parks. If you had an entrance feeding straight into the main car parks, you'd have traffic jams not long after closing time. The monorail and the differing speeds at which folk walk...

    Anything Radioactive Topic

I'm guessing it's not been mentioned because nobody believes it. You don't go from A-bomb to H-bomb in only four tests, unless they're buying them in.

    Most Missed Rides

I'm really missing the Corkscrew at the moment. That whine of the lift hill was just iconic!

    The 'flat ride' future

Please not an Air Race, I intend to hold down my breakfast. Maybe I'm just getting old.

    Possible New Park Entrance?

Keep the main entrance, if the staffing costs of the monorail are too high, either refit the trains for automatic operation or get new automatic trains and make sure people can see out of the windows properly. Really builds the suspense to see the park on the way in, an atmosphere that has been...

    The 'flat ride' future

Alton needs something like Quantum at Thorpe Park. That looks unassuming but is an absolute beast!

    RIP Ripsaw

I'd be happy if they put a brand new reincarnation of Energizer in its place, on its original programming.

    Epic Fails at Towers?

Not at the Towers, but its sister theme park, Thorpe. Walked the entire length of the Stealth queueline only to find no trains or operators at the station and realising it was closed. Would have helped if they had shut and bolted the gate though.

    The Future- 5 year plan

I suppose we've not covered indifference towards the Smiler.
