I'd hazard a guess that the world's first on the advert was a mistake, probably because the previous SWs under Merlin have used that tagline.

Maybe the trains stop in the theming element and then teach you a different language each trip. A worlds first and a world [language] class experience much like what Ned did to convert the coaster in Praiseland

Haha! I hope that they also print that I made that when in a disciplinary for a member of staff who had been slacking.

Bad Photoshopping aside, I am not overly sold on backwards facing rows, but maybe! Who knows. I don't really want to know until the announcement/opening day. If they were to do that, I'd be more interested in alternate rows rather than half and half. The Invertigos are fun if there is four of you and you can face two of your friends during the ride. That said, it's more than a little awkward when stuck on the lift for 30 mins with someone you don't know!
 
That was the Cyclone at Southport wasn't it Rick...hated it backwards, only did it once...made me travel sick by half way round.
 
You do wonder why that head thing has a face on both sides, and isn't it at a slightly tilted angle too, as if one side is currently facing the floor slightly more than the other? I only had a quick look at the images the other day, so I may have remembered this wrong..........

You do pass through it in both directions, so that could be one explanation.

Will there be a world's first? It is my understanding that there is/was one but it is nothing related to the ride hardware itself. Whether this world's first still exists or whether they plan to market it I have no idea. I suspect we will find out more on Monday!

That's from Cyclone/Tornado at Morecambe. As far as I recall, at least during my lifetime, Southport's ran with a backward train rather than with a mix of forward/backward cars - but could be wrong.
 
It could be tilted because the head falls off in the film. If indeed you go round twice in opposite directions, the story could progress as you go round ending wih flames and rhe destrucrion of the wickerman
 
Well I never Rick, didn't know they did the Texas Tornado backwards as well. Only ever did it forwards.
And Jame...how can you do forwards and backwards with 3 trains on the track...would need some pretty cool switch track for that!
 
Dunno how I’d feel about the trains facing forwards and backwards, could be interesting but potentially very uncomfortable for backwards riders. However, if the layout has been designed with permanent backwards riders in mind, it could be a very enjoyable experience if you were facing other people.

I’m surpriced that no ride exists (to my knowledge) which only switches between forwards and backwards once per ride cycle. This would mean a train leaving the station forward would re-enter backward, then the next cycle the process is reversed.

Highly unlikely SW8 would do this, unless they’ve managed to hide a turntable in the show scene.

Presumably a switch track would be more space efficient.

With all these theories floating around, it's worth noting that GCI aren't known for their gimmicks. They haven't really done anything out of the ordinary - they just make great rides, largely based on a similar theme - like B&M in some ways.

They notably haven't done inversions, shuttles, or general crazy RMC style stuff - or perhaps no one asked them to.

Well, GCI have the tech and ride models to do Shuttles, Because there was a GCI family shuttle coaster displayed at IAPAA years ago. Also the Millennim Flyer trains when designed in 2007, were designed with inversions and launches in mind. Just that no client has asked GCI for one.

Flyers came out in the late 1990s, are you thinking of Timberliners? They were launched with a 'Launch compatible' label around that time.
 
GCI have said they will do inversions yes, but if you want to get an inverting woodie then you are far more likely to go to either RMC or Gravity Group.

But yes, there will be no GCI gimmicks on SW8.

Implying there is a gimmick, just not track and train? Is anyone going to spill the beans or are we going to keep playing 20 questions? :p
 
Sure someone's probably suggested it already but it'd be cool if the queue line had hidden messages written all around it in runes, similar to the "Indiana Jones adventure" ride at Disneyland. They could even hand out cards with the runes and their alphabetical equivalents just like Disneyland did ; maybe it'd make queuing a little bit less boring. I'm almost certain this is something Towers have thought about doing anyways.
