This could work really really well. Marketing material looks great, it looks a good solid coaster and the fire effects, if maintained should add thrill to it.

I hope the effects are similar to the promo pick and not just random bursts of flames. And I hope they are maintained. Somehow I think not - it will cost a fortune in gas.

That said, it will be a good solid addition to a depleting line up

Wonder if EP will use this as a chance to mock Towers/Merlin savagely or, dare I say, bring their claim to court about false adviersting that they did it first with Wodan. Would bring more interest in the ride, though not how Merlin would like it mind you...
 
I am sure they could get out of legal action by saying they are using the fire in a way that’s never been used before
 
At the end of the day, I don't think EP or any other theme park for that matter care one little bit about this tedious world's first Towers are claiming!

What I dont understand is why does it make any difference to the fire effect that the ride is wooden? Ignore that its a wooden coaster, and plenty more coasters of any type have huge fire effects central to the experience.

The wood aspect only seems relevant because of the sense of 'danger' of wood mixed with fire, which is fair enough on its own I guess to get people talking, but really it's irrelevant to the world's first claim.

Just ignore it, they couldnt think of anything better to strap on to the advertising, what matters is the ride itself that people will soon be riding. Hopefully the flame effects are cool and impressive, sounds like it has great potential this time to be awesome. Rather than the weird kind of 'corner of your eye' flame gimmick on The Swarm or something.
 
Wondering if the flame effects will be similar to Arcadia at Glastonbury? Although when the main afterburners are set off you can hear it all over the festival site.

Possibly, although that set-up was temporary whereas Wicker Man's will be permanent.

You can indeed! It's got a huge roar to it. I was there for that, and Andy C's set prior - Incredible :)
 
Does anyone know/remember any fire effects being noted in the noise assessment when the plan were submitted?

I hope Merlin haven't omitted this from the noise assessment in an oversight because fire effects can be very loud and the sound does travel for a long distance.

One to keep an eye on when it opens, especially if locals complain. :cool:

Perhaps it will be a more gradual burn than a sudden outburst?
 
I must say I'm very interested by the whole affair and do eagerly await getting out there on the 17th.

My only fear lies in the Marketing, while being quite good, choosing a darker theme where this is a family ride. I do feel it will be more intense than Thirteen though.

As for the fire. I've seen some effects like it before on Bizzaro at Six Flags GrAdv. I'm hoping there will be some fire effect for each time you go in and out the Wickerman, perhaps getting bigger each time?

It was always clear from the off that higher, bigger, longer versions would be built, but JW cleverly set out to make you feel you could fly and within the limits that AT has, I think he achieved that.

Galactica was merely an ungodly disecration of all that was good about the ride.

Oops back on topic... I think Wickerman will be merely good, whereas Nemmie is truly GREAT!

I think there's a bit of selective memory going on there. AT marketed Air as the world's first flying coaster when there was already a (Vekoma?) ride that could take that crown.

No denying it was very new, cutting edge technology they were using for a ride, but they were essentially lying.

So I think they have form when it comes to marketing rides as a world first when really they are taking an idea and taking it further (like Apple claiming to be the first to use facial recognition with their new phone when it's been done on other phones for years).

Marketing is marketing. They have to sell a ride to bring people to the park. It doesn't affect the ride experience in the end. What we should judge is the thrill (or lack of) when actually on the coaster.

I prefer the simpler times when rides just appeared by word of mouth in the playground, randomly on national TV or just happened to turn up on my next visit. Sometimes D all of the above! I still don't know where ripsaw came from? it just appeared in 1997 without fanfair for me :cool:

This impulsive 24/7, headline grabbing, click bait marketing available in your hand immediately isn't always for the best. SW8 was doing fine marketed as a solid family ride, albeit with another dark theme. It didn't need a tedious exaggerated world's first tag at all.

Hopefully at the 2018 fireworks we're all talking about how it's a fun GCI coaster and there is buzz back in the park, that its really needed since June 2015 :)

Ps I wonder if the Beornens will have a blackberry and liquorice beverage recipe ;)

Christ. Looks like what you'd get if you took LSD then studied SW7 and 8 one after another.
 
Just noticed a quote from Towers’ page on Wicker Man:

Interesting that it’s called a works train. Curious as to what that means/how this will be a part of the story
