Pleeeease don't conflate baseless cynicism with people's genuinely low expectations, after years of disappointments, rushed & short term projects and non sensical marketing/management, for the sake of a witty post.

Merlin are quite right to be criticised for all the repeat and easily avoidable mistakes that have been made over the years, I don't see anything wrong with that.

Merlin needed to do something extra good to turn people's expectations around, the public's mainly, that was their whole ambition and job with this ride. The fact that the consensus on Wickerman changed ought to be testament to how they appear to have gone the extra mile – so I'm pleased for them.

I'm a vocal critic of the negatives about Merlin, but I'm looking forward to Wickerman because it has a lot of potential. The only disappointment I've had without riding it is the wasted opportunity with the layout, because of what could have been. But I'm sure it can still be really enjoyed for what it is, if it turns out to be good fun.

Dan is the king of base cynicism, there are very few “fanboys” on this forum for Alton Towers (europa Park maybe). But there is a small cohort who will never see anything positive and when they begrudgingly have to accept a positive their post will quickly aim to find another negative.

Anyway that’s way off topic.
 
When does everyone think we'll see the premier of the TV advert? I think in the middle of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway on one of the next few Saturdays.

TowersTimes have released a video of Drone footage supplied by Alton Towers showing off the Wicker Man, I can't seem to find this footage on any other source, so I'm not sure if it's been sent out to everyone?

It's on the Alton Towers YouTube channel, as of 20 minutes ago.

Looking at the amount of planting around the ride area, I think this is going to be one of those rides that just looks better as the years go on and it's hardly starting out as a monstrosity.

Edit: It seems as though a 'Meet The Makers' event, that was scheduled for Wednesday, has been rescheduled due to the weather.

this is the video that made me love this coaster! it looks so natural to the sight and flowing, just a mass of wood. the rooms are a nice touch and they have clearly payed attention to what this would look like offride.

If they are clever about it they could have the advert in one of the ad breaks of the show, and also in the ad break of another show that they will use for the win the ads feature. Or just sneak it in as a prize regardless of whether the ad was shown during the show or not.

Please don't let this be a sign of a delay...

Also what is the event? It sounds interesting, Is it some sort of media day? It's a good sign if it is. By the sounds of it we'll get more information on how the ride came to fruitition that is if filming is allowed.

I noticed Kip Hakes mentioning on Twitter that it was put back, so it was seemingly a media day of sorts. Given the fact we've seen it running with and without riders, I'd assume it's been put back because they were worried some of the invited people couldn't make it due to the weather we're expecting to get.

A few vloggers were invited and made it aware they were going so got to assume it was the press launch.
 
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but Backseat Blackout contacted JW and asked for his thoughts on Wickerman, and here they are!
